Hello,
I just bought the new Office 2013, which looks pretty good visually, but I'm experiencing issues regarding the speed of operation execution.
Opening is relatively quick, but as soon as I want to change something in my document (bold text, go back to a previously written sentence, add something...), the cursor goes into search mode and takes about 30 seconds before executing my request (regardless of whether it's Word, Excel, or PowerPoint).
It's very frustrating.
Do you have any advice for me?
Thank you very much for your help.
Have a good day.

Hello,
I have exactly this problem for a year.
Office 2013 is installed on my laptop, but when I move the cursor with the arrow keys to scroll through a line of words in Word, the cursor moves very slowly and one of the two CPU cores is at 100%!
I never had this issue with Office 2010, how is that possible?
Thanks in advance because this is really unbearable
And then they’ve already removed the very useful autocorrect option, which is totally counterproductive, and on top of that, there are these slowdowns, a real failure.-
Finally, I have FINALLY found the solution:
You need to go to Options, then Add-Ins, and remove everything in "Active Application Add-Ins". I had an add-in in there that I deleted, and since then there has been no more slowdown.
It has nothing to do with hardware acceleration in my case; if I disable it, it's worse, the pages lose their smoothness...- Interesting :)
What I find in the "Active Application Add-ons" are files with the dll extension... will removing them not cause issues elsewhere??
For example: C:\Program Files (x86)\Druide\Antidote 8 \Texteurs\Excel\Antidote.Excel.P400.dll
and 3 others of the same kind.
Thanks in advance for your response :)

Hello,
It might be a matter of your computer's configuration; it simply isn't powerful enough anymore :s
Can you give me your computer's specifications so I can tell you if it's sufficient, please?
Thanks :) -
Thank you for your super quick response!!!
My PC configuration:
Windows 7, Home Edition
Processor: AMD Athlon(tm) II 170u Processor 2.00 GHz
Installed memory RAM: 4.00 GB (3.75 GB usable)
64-bit operating system
Graphics card: ATI Radeon 3000 Graphics
Do you need any other details???
Thank you for your help!! :-) -
Alright, the good news is that it’s not your configuration since it's sufficient compared to the minimum requirements for Office 2013.
Have you tried closing all other programs and then restarting Office 2013 to see if it runs faster?
Also, do you have other programs that are slower than usual? -
phew, you reassure me!!!!
Yes, I tried without opening other programs and I didn't notice a decrease in speed for the others???
It's really strange.
Do you think I should reinstall Office???
See you soon -
Hello, I'm bringing this topic up to date because I have exactly the same issue but only with SOME of my Word files. I've tried the different techniques suggested in this topic and none seem to work.
Thank you for your help!!-
Hello,
Same problem as DamonWeasley, rather the files that accumulate images, texts, tables, and various inserted forms but not necessarily very large. Word starts consuming system resources and navigating between the pages of the documents becomes very slow after a few seconds of use. You have to wait several seconds, even a minute, to be able to make an edit. This is not normal.
My setup doesn't seem to be the issue: Windows 8.1 64-bit Word 2016 32-bit
CPU: Intel Core i7-4700HQ; 8 GB of RAM
What’s more, the problem suddenly occurred for me in early February; I have the impression it was after a Windows update.
I did try restoring before the update, but it didn't change anything.
It's the work PC, I don't want to mess with it too much, but I'm a bit stuck with this Word... -
I found my answer here:
https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/office/forum/office_2013_release-office_account/office-2013-freezes-or-crashes-after-feb-9th/3f4d4b9e-0dd5-47cf-bff2-1c631f2287e2
It was the fault of a faulty Microsoft update...
I uninstalled this update and everything seems to be back to normal. Phew!
