SyncBack - Synchronize Deleted Files

Hello,

I use SyncBack to synchronize work folders.
It's a very powerful software, but it has a weakness that would probably force me to set it aside; it distinguishes between a source folder and a destination folder. Everything works well except when it comes to deleting a file. In this case, by customizing the profile, there are two options:
- What to do if the file is in the source but not in the destination?
- What to do if the file is in the destination but not in the source?
In both cases, it is necessary to specify whether to delete the file or copy it to where it is missing. And that's my problem. I work in a similar manner in both the source and destination. I may delete (or move) a file from either of the folders. It is the software that should detect if the file has been deleted or not based on a history or log created at the end of each synchronization.

Since this software is praised by many users, I suspect that I might not have configured it correctly. If any user has faced this issue before, please share your insights.

Thank you in advance!

    Hello.

"the latter distinguishes between a source folder and a destination folder."
Of course, you have to call a spade a spade.

"I suspect it's me who hasn't configured it correctly."
    No, no.
    It's not a configuration problem.

Here lies the problem: "I work in a similar way in the source and the destination."
We only "work" on the synchronized folder (the source).
And changes are recorded in the duplication folder (the destination).
For deletions, it's up to you to decide whether they should be reflected in the duplication folder or not.

Thank you for your response antipolis,

I then understand that Syncback assumes the user works in the source folder and uses the destination folder as a backup.
I was looking for software that rather keeps an internal log of the last synchronization so that it can know what has been modified. This is the principle of well-known software such as AllMySync, Sync Butler, and Dropbox (even though the latter does it between the computer and a network folder).

It's a shame, I really liked SyncBack. With this little option, it would be perfect!

Otherwise, there is the option in SyncBack "smart sync" which addresses your issue, by keeping only the most recent file in case of conflict... but it's in the SE version and not free.

I was sure that this option exists. But it's a version issue.
Since it's the work computer, I unfortunately can't update it as I wish.
Moreover, if it's not freeware, I don't know if it's worth considering for personal use.

        Hello.
I recently changed my computer and downloaded version 6 of Syncback.
Previously, in my setup, considering that my two computers are equally important, any modified or deleted file would also be modified or deleted on the other one, based on the oldest version. This is still the case, except that deleted files are not removed from the other computer and, during the next sync, they come back...... I have the feeling that in this version the choice of conditions is different. It’s not usable as it is.
Have you found the solution since you seem to have the same problem?
        Thank you.
