Hello, my printer is no longer working and a window opens on my computer informing me that the waste absorber is full. I have looked everywhere but I can't find the right page so I am stuck. Can someone please tell me what I can do?

Configuration: Windows XP / Internet Explorer 8.0

    Hello;

    I suggest you try resetting the ink counter to zero by following this procedure I found on a website but haven't tried since I don't have this type of printer (so proceed with caution)

    Turn off the printer.
    Press "Power" and at the same time "Stop/Reset".
    Release "Stop/reset" and press it twice again.
    Release both buttons.
    When the "on/off" lights are green, press "Stop/Reset" 4 times.
    Turn off the printer and turn it back on.

    A+ for the result

      Hello, thank you for providing me with these explanations. First of all, I must admit that at 76 years old, it isn't easy for me to understand everything, and a small nothing represents an ocean to me. Power, I suppose, means on/off. Stop/Reset is not listed on the front of my machine; it is probably represented by a symbol that I do not identify as such... Furthermore, I can no longer find the operating manual for this damn machine. I must have put it away somewhere, and it remains unfound, so I am completely confused. My problem is not solved. Thank you nonetheless for trying.

      Hello;
      I absolutely have to be absent this morning, as soon as I return I will take a closer look in order to get more details because as I mentioned in my first message, I don’t have this type of printer.
      I promise > I will be back this afternoon.
      Best regards.

      Hello;
      After my research, I am sending you the elements I have to try and reset the ink counter of your printer, along with a photo of the printer screen that should help you manipulate its commands >> See the image below

      Below >> The link to the Canon MP160 manual in PDF format >> See from page 30 and more precisely page 45
      Click on this link

      See you and good luck

    Thank you for doing all this research to try to help me, but I have tried everything and to no avail. I haven't found any pages beyond page 25. On pages 23 or 24, they explain how to deburr the paper, but it stops there. I will look for CANON and send them an email with explanations. Thank you again. Best regards.

      I finally found my manual, but it does not contain the solution to my problem.

      Hello;
      Your first message mentioned a full ink reservoir issue, and in your last message, you're talking about a paper jam problem??
      Do you have a message on your printer, and what exactly does it say (I don't want to criticize Canon's customer service too much, but apart from a response like "Return to factory" or something like that, it wouldn't be too surprising from them. Personally, I had an issue with a practically new Canon that was out of warranty, and after exchanging about 25 emails with them, always receiving replies from different representatives, I gave up and put Canon away) Canon's manuals don't offer any troubleshooting solutions, the same goes for the internet, or at least very limited solutions (Nothing compared to Brother or HP, for example)
      Best regards

    It's very kind of you and I'm delighted. I don't have any paper jam issues. I was just mentioning that they only mention this problem on pages 23 and 24 of the manual. As for the message, I see on the control panel that the indicator light 5 is flashing, the A4 (paper) light is green (which is normal), and in the window, there is repeatedly and at regular intervals the message: 2 7 E. The button 10 (on/off) flashes 7 short times and once long... Here is precisely what I observe.
    Furthermore, when I click on "print" (a printer icon in the horizontal taskbar at the top) of my screen, a window opens on my computer screen, in this window there is an image of my printer with a (box) of ink that seems to have overflowed with drops all around.
    I did a "search" LOL... inside the machine and I saw that in the places (right and left) where the cartridges move back and forth, there is loose (spilled) ink. The malfunction could come from this incident (I'm thinking of a cracked or leaking cartridge). I will try to clean this issue today with a brush and water. I will keep you updated if that brings any results.

      Hello;
      After multiple searches, I haven't found any better solutions than the one I sent you yesterday.
      I'm copying and pasting this solution again for you to try it once more, as it seems to have resolved the same issue multiple times.

      Turn off the printer.
      Press the "resume" button (red circle in the triangle), and while holding it, press "power."
      Release the "resume" button.
      Without releasing the "power" button, press "resume" twice and then release both buttons.
      Press "resume" four times. Press "power" to confirm.
      Press "power" again to restart the printer.

      In fact, the ink absorber is located in a small bin at the bottom of the printer and is quite difficult to access. If you see ink, you can try to soak it up with blotting paper or paper towels, and if you manage to remove the small blocks that contain the excess used ink, you can clean them with warm water and then dry them before reinstalling them, but it's quite delicate since access is difficult.

      See you later,
      Best regards.

      Hello, I'm back. I undressed my printer and carefully rinsed it with water, using a bottle of St. Yorre and having attached a 2-millimeter-long flexible tube about ten centimeters long to the cap. I gave it a thorough wash and ink came out. Afterward, I placed it on two battens on the boiler overnight. The next day, it was dry, so I reassembled it, but the issue was still present. At that moment, I found that infamous ink absorber, a long sponge (about twenty centimeters) well stuck in its housing but easy enough to access and clearly visible. I pulled it out with a pin, washed it, and dried it. Once I put it back in place, I followed the procedure you indicated, and the machine powered on. I managed to make one print and one scan, then it got stuck again. I suspect that the issues are due to the so-called compatible cartridges that I bought from a new store after seeing an ad. Now the problem is different, and my computer indicates that one or even both cartridges are mispositioned. However, after checking, that's not the case. I'm fed up; I'm going to take my machine to the recycling center and I've called my son to tell me which model and brand I should buy (but I won't be getting another Canon). I want to thank you once again for all the advice I've received.

      Hello;
      As mentioned above, I have a Canon Pixma IP4000R that after 4 years of good and loyal service did the same as yours, even with original cartridges from the start, and overnight it just stopped. I did what you did, a thorough cleaning, exchanged about twenty emails with Canon, bought a new print head (87 euros) >> Result: 1 good page and then nothing again >> Straight to the garage and a cross on Canon and Epson with whom I had the same problem. I wouldn't recommend buying new Canon brand cartridges as you are very likely to encounter the same issue and end up 50 euros poorer, which is a third of the cost of a new printer.
      After searching and listening to the advice of a specialized computer technician with a storefront, he advised me to go for the Brother brand (which I have been using for 3 years now and so far no issues (always with brand cartridges).
      Depending on your use of the printer, don't go for the low-end models (personally mine does Fax which I never use), and if I had to do it again, I would choose the model below without Fax. HP isn’t bad either but in my opinion, Brother (HERE) is better (Check out the high-end model).
      I think we have unfortunately covered everything and there's not much left to do (Experts call this planned obsolescence = forced consumption).
      With that, I wish you a good evening and maybe see you soon.
      Best regards.

      That's a good line of reasoning, and besides, it's mine, so the machine at Emmaüs, if they still want it, and I'm waiting to hear what my son will say, who is supposed to look online tonight to find the model and brand I need, but I'll talk to him about Brother so he can look more closely.

      I have fond memories of our exchanges, always very simple but so cordial.

      See you soon.
