Hello,
I'm sorry, I'm going to speak like a child but I don't have the appropriate terms at all, so rather than making mistakes...
When my MacBook suddenly stopped working, they removed the back part which contained my Mac and put it in a case similar to an external hard drive. This way, when I got my new Mac, at startup, by plugging in this case, I was able to choose the old one and back up my files to an external drive for transfer.
I just bought a new Mac after a theft and I would like to start this operation again.
I remember having to plug it in and press a button during the startup of the computer to choose which Mac I want to start. I can't find which button it is, what to do.
If you could help me that would be great.
Thank you so much!!!
Configuration: Mac OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.2) / Safari 6.0.1

Good evening,
It seems like you're starting up in "target mode"... In principle, you can find the manual using the "Help" menu in Finder.
I'm copying for you what the relevant section indicates for my iMac running MacOS X 10.6.8:

File Transfer Between Two Computers via FireWire If you have two Mac computers with FireWire ports, you can connect them so that one appears as an external hard drive on the other. This practice is sometimes called Target Disk Mode. To transfer files via FireWire: 1) Connect the two computers with a FireWire cable. 2) Start the computer to be used as a disk in target disk mode: * If the computer is off, start it while holding down the T key. * If the computer is on, choose the Apple menu > System Preferences, click on Startup Disk, then on Target Disk Mode. When the computer has started, a disk icon appears on the desktop of the other computer. 3) Transfer files by dragging them to and from the disk. 4) Eject the disk by dragging its icon to the Trash. (While you drag it, the Trash icon changes to an Eject icon.) 5) Press the power button of the computer used as the disk to turn it off, then disconnect the FireWire cable. How's it going? Keep us updated...
