Hello,
For some time now, when I try to activate the Windows firewall, I get an error message: "Windows Firewall cannot change some of your settings error code: 0x8007042c"
I have followed all the steps from https://support.microsoft.com/fr-fr/help/2530126/0x8007042c-error-message-when-you-try-to-start-windows-firewall without success, method 1 finds nothing, method 2 the software is not win32, method 3 I get an error message for each dependency, and method 4 doesn’t work either.
Same for Windows Defender: "the specified service does not exist as an installed service 0x80070424"
I have files disappearing for video games, the connections with game servers (lol, sc2) sometimes fail. So now it's really starting to worry me.
I want to point out that I am on Windows 7 32bit, and I have Avira free antivirus.
I would be really grateful to anyone who can help me fix this problem.
Best regards, TroX.
Configuration: xp, geforce 8800GT, realtek XXXXX motherboard, Intel i5

so strong!!!
actually you need to follow:
Windows Vista/Seven
1.
Download the parefeu_Seven.zip file attached to this message.
>>save it in a pf_svn folder on the desktop containing:
moteur_filtrage.reg
parefeu_MPsSvc.reg
I copied the file addresses into pf_svn.txt on the desktop:
C:\Users\Acer\Downloads\pf_svn\moteur_filtrage.reg
C:\Users\Acer\Downloads\pf_svn\parefeu_MPsSvc.reg
2.
Restart the computer
"Load both .reg files and accept the merge of the data.">> means Start/C:\Users\Acer\Downloads\pf_svn\moteur_filtrage.reg...
Or open a folder (Win+e)... anyway, click OK
3.
Then you need to modify the permissions on the registry keys of the two services:
Run regedit from the menu by typing regedit in the Start menu.
Navigate through the folders, on the left by clicking on the +, to reach: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\
4.
Make sure that the keys: BFE, MpsSvc, and SharedAccess indeed exist.
On BFE, right-click / Permissions and add.
//I even did this step first, and loaded the files afterwards and it worked!!! :P
Type: "Everyone" in "Enter the object name to select".
Click OK.
"Check" Full Control as permissions and OK.
5.
Same for SharedAccess and wscsvc.
6.
Then start "services.msc" from the Start menu.
Try to start Filtering Engines, if it works, try to start the Windows Firewall service.

Thank you very much to PHYYY and MALEKAL because I just applied the procedure described and I have finally resolved my inactive Windows firewall issue with error 0x8007042c that I had been experiencing for over 6 months. I had previously tried all the possible fixes recommended online, including the Windows solutions, without any success! I don't know much about computers, but I followed step by step what was indicated and it works perfectly now. Thanks again to both of you. Georges

I think I have the same problem. Can I use the same procedure or do I need to create a new topic?

yes, but it would be nice if you created your own topic :)
