replace an i3 with an i7

Question

Hello,  I had a little idea today that I would like to share with you; on my laptop, I have a Core i3 330M @2.13GHz, and a friend of mine is giving me a Core i7 740QM @1.7/2.9GHz. Here is the AIDA 64 report on my CPU http://hpics.li/944dee2 and here are the specs for the i7 https://www.notebookcheck.net/Intel-Core-i7-740QM-Notebook-Processor.31146.0.html  The socket is indeed the same (PGA988) but the TDP is significantly different (25W/45W), what do you think?? You need to see what hardware configuration this PC is made of and what you're doing with it to reach 80°  Probably gaming and using the hardware at max.  -- Who loves instruction! finds the knowledge that comes from reflection! Hello It's not obvious if this processor will work on your PC. It's tricky to change a processor on a laptop. Although the socket is the same. Hi  Personally, the TDP being almost doubled will cause problems; your laptop's cooling system is designed for a TDP of 25W. If you put a 45W processor in it, it will definitely overheat at the slightest load increase.  The power supply stage is also not designed for a processor that is almost twice as powerful. Not to mention the processor support by the motherboard, for which, of course, there won't be any compatibility list available.  Before asking a question: 1° The brain doesn't wear out if you use it, so don't hesitate to use it! 2° Google is your friend, as is the search engine from CCM, so do a search!

Thank you all, I share your opinion, but I wanted to be sure I do have a cooling pad under my PC, but maybe it isn't sufficient. However, is there a way to limit the processor so that it doesn't exceed 25W under load?? Like throttling the clock to 2.5GHz for example?  -- When in doubt, reboot!! If you're hesitating, format!! Well, I've already done a good cleaning, result => no more than 55°C under full load without a cooling pad,  so it should be worth a try?  -- When in doubt, reboot!! If you're hesitating, format!! Be careful, this is a "proverb", not advice....

it all depends on the socket you have PGA988 which needs  the i3-330M was also in socket BGA1288  to clean the radiator fins, you need to disassemble the fan -- no links on web pages in English, I already steal enough on my own
