Factory image, what is it?

Hello,
Don't laugh, I have a newbie question.
I have a D partition called factory_image that has 12 Giga with only 10% free.
My question:
I've never done a partition before, why is the C: disk partitioned? And how can I increase the capacity of this partition?
Is it a fictitious or real partition?
Before, on XP I didn't have this kind of partition.

Hello,
This is a Recovery partition, which allows you to reinstall your PC to its factory settings, or to create restoration DVDs.
Do not touch it.

So nothing to do with any "images"
Because in this document there are 3 photos that have probably been stuck there due to a manipulation error.
Actually, it's the "image" that disturbed me, it should be named "Recovery" and everyone would understand.
