Router issues???

Good evening, good evening, I turn to you after searching a bit on several forums this afternoon.

Let me explain: I retrieved a Linksys WRT54GC router. The problem is that when I plug it in, all the LEDs light up and then the Wi-Fi turns off. When I connect a network cable from the router to my PC, the PC does not detect the connection, so I cannot access the interface.

It seems that I've concluded for now that it was a firmware issue, but the problem is that I cannot revert to an older firmware since there is no connection possible with my PCs.

What should I do?

Thank you in advance.
PS: I do not know the router's history.

    Hello,

Apparently, this router is not widely used in France. Personally, I have a WRT54GS model and I have patched it with a much more advanced firmware than the original, which is DD-WRT.
Normally, the LEDs corresponding to the Ethernet ports should be off if no cable is connected, etc.

I assume you have done the following checks:
    - change the Ethernet RJ45 cable between your router and the PC (you never know....)
    - change the position of the Ethernet port on the router (there should be 4, and do not confuse it with the one from the ADSL/internet modem)
    - check the output voltage of the power adapter (not too low).
    - important point, have you done a "hard reset" of the router using the small button located near the support/plate to position it vertically? Press this button for at least 12 to 15 seconds to perform a factory reset and then retest.
    - Dismantle the cover and check that there are no internal connectors half-disconnected, etc. (make sure to unplug the power cable from the adapter).

If the problem persists despite all these checks, it must then be a hardware issue and I fear that it will be "junk" considering the cost of any potential repair compared to that of a new router.

    Best regards.

In the worst case, you can find Linksys routers on the Leboncoin site for between €15 and €35.

Hello, first of all thank you for your reply.

I have indeed done everything you mentioned, I also tried to reinstall the original firmware, but as I said, it is impossible for the PC to recognize the connection.

Since I bought it at a store like "cash converter," it has a three-month warranty.

I'm going to bring it back pretending that I didn't understand but it doesn't work. I hope they will take it back!!!

If still guaranteed, there is no reason to hesitate.....

Don't forget that you can find second-hand ones for a low price on other sites (but try to test if possible before paying).

      Good luck.

Problem solved, they took it back and exchanged it for a brand new D-link.

Moral: Be wary when buying used equipment from a specialized dealer who assures you of the product's proper functioning when it is not the case! ;)

Thank you for your response, and I hope the D-Link will work.
