Hello,

Could someone tell me if this email is indeed fake: it supposedly comes from Interpol Côte d'Ivoire asking me to pay 2417 euros to avoid a so-called accusation of pedophilia online?

Here is the email address:

police-interpol.gouv@outlook.com

And a header from the email:

SCIENTIFIC POLICE AFRICA SECTION

Anti-Pedophilia Department

SCIENTIFIC POLICE PROTECTION OF MINORS
'' protecting our children on the Internet against pedophilia ''

TOTAL SCAM!! As usual... Did you check the address of the INTERPOL pseudonym? Nothing with .gouv.. A government agency would have an address like .gouv.demes2
Straight to the trash..
But we can guess the origin of this blackmail... Symptoms, remedies, testimonials from fellow sufferers here:
https://www.google.lu/search?q=arnaque+webcam&oq=arnaque+webcam&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8&gws_rd=ssl
And above all NOT A CENT for the scammers!!
You can also report the scam here:

See you!

Hello,

not very accustomed to forums. Excuse me.

Today, I was scammed. The usual cliché... a girl flirts with me and I play the fool, then she tells me her age, I say I have to cut off because she is a minor... but ... too late... then I start receiving threatening emails.

1. Received a letter from the infamous Marcel Dosso.

2. Then received an email supposedly coming from the French police.

with an attachment of a video of me doing things I am not proud of...

What attitude should I take... respond to them saying I have reported their scam to such and such authority, or remain silent...

Thank you for advising me... I’m not dead scared, I just fear that this video might be shared with relatives or online...

Thank you for your advice.

Here we go...

I am LIEUTENANT-COLONEL Jean Claude Broquin of the French gendarmerie. We have just received a report from the Ivorian authorities. You are accused of an offense under Article 235 of the Penal Code. You showed your private parts to a minor aged 15 years via the internet; for that, first you will need to contact the Interpol police commissioner, Mr. MARCEL DOSSO, and present your apologies and find a solution to end this story, otherwise, we will repatriate you as quickly as possible to Côte d'Ivoire for legal proceedings.

We do not wish for a misunderstanding between Côte d'Ivoire and France, so please take responsibility for your actions.

Please also know that the offense you have committed is unforgivable in all legal proceedings as it is prohibited by our constitution. You could be imprisoned for 5 to 10 years in prison.

Sir, please contact the commissioner at the following number 00225 ******** immediately upon receipt.

to apologize and resolve this matter before your videos are published by all our partner channels and your parents are informed of this.

PS: You are requested to contact the Interpol police commissioner, Mr. MARCEL DOSSO, to resolve this matter within 48 hours to avoid us making an arrest against you. Be aware that you are also being located by all our armed brigade forces throughout the French territory; you have a deadline of 48 hours to end this story.

Here is the number of the commissioner you must contact: 00225 *******

In the hope of certain understanding from your part, we extend to you our most distinguished greetings, thank you.

Sincerely,

LIEUTENANT-COLONEL Jean Claude Broquin

Thank you for your rather vague response; I wasn't asking if it was true but how to react. In other words, I was asking whether a certain type of response could discourage them.

let it go, they don't care about your answers..
in the face of your silence, they've already moved on...

"Know that you are also being located by all our armed brigade forces throughout the entirety of French territory; you have a deadline of 48 hours to finish this story."

it's true that having the whole army on your back for a sex story is quite ridiculous!!

no but really!!!!!!!

It's true that having the whole army on your back over a sex story is quite the irony!!

LOL.

One last thing... is it useful for the people on this site for me to share anything regarding upcoming threats... to serve the community.

Thank you for your advice that I will implement.

Best regards.

I'm convinced it's a fake email, especially considering how it’s signed "Anti-Pedophilia Brigade"; that doesn't exist, we say "murder brigades."
Moreover, for Interpol to intervene as a French resident, you have to have fled France to benefit from a search warrant... but you are here; if they needed you, they would have come to get you....
There are big scams in Côte d'Ivoire to extract money from people, so don't be afraid and don't be intimidated!
Good luck!

By never responding! Normally, it stops pretty quickly if you haven't bitten into the scam, total silence.

In general, we never receive emails from authorities, especially judicial ones; a summons at home or an officer of the law directly at one's place, and then when we haven't done anything, we have nothing to fear! It's a bit like bank or CAF emails asking for identifiers necessary for some reason, especially to extort money! And to think that some fall right into it! Yet just a bit of common sense would avoid these traps; it's better to contact your organization directly instead of doing it by email in these cases!
Like many, I've received a bunch of them; I responded to them by being absurd, and they weren't happy! Ha! Ha!! Since then, I haven't received anything! Furthermore, now that I'm using Real Hyde IP, I haven't received any messages of that kind anymore!
Oh, if only the government would go after these crooks instead of harassing drivers, but that's another story!
