No printing because no color ink

Hello,

I have an Epson SX 130 printer, but I'm out of color ink, however I have a black cartridge that's completely full because it's new. I want to print in black and white... but nope! The printer refuses, even though I've set the properties to grayscale...

Is there a solution other than investing in color ink?

Configuration: Windows 7 / Firefox 18.0

    Hello,

unfortunately no, this is the case with all Epsons. In order to print, all cartridges need to have a minimum level.
In fact, the printer allows printing in black when the black cartridge is empty by creating an artificial black from the yellow, red, and blue cartridges.
If these are empty, you won't be able to make a substitute black.
And that's what's holding things up, even if the black cartridge is overflowing.

    Sincerely.

Hello, I confirm what mousse6994 says, I myself am stuck with my SX125, the "cyan" cartridge is empty, and the printer won't print anymore, it is imperative to change the empty cartridge(s), even by changing the print settings, it won't make any difference.

    Best regards.

    Hello,
same problem, and this kind of machine is frustrating (actually, I have the same printer).
    Sorry, that's impossible! :/

Thank you for your responses, and to think I hesitated between this printer and an HP, serious mistake, especially since it seems that the cartridges are not completely empty but the printer insists on buying...

Thank you for your quick and precise answers.

You're welcome, have a good evening!
P.S.: I didn't know that, if it's true that's really lame, thanks for the info :-$

    @ chossette9,

As long as there is only the small yellow triangle, we can always print, but if it's a cross inside a red circle, no matter the color, the printer won't accept it anymore. I realized this when I once ran out of black ink; I didn't pay attention, and the white cross in the red circle was on the black cartridge, and the printer didn’t ask to switch to the other colors to produce "pseudo" black.

It's therefore better not to let it go too far once the warning triangle is visible.

Best regards and have a good evening.

Is it the same story with Oki laser printers?

Good evening tonyoo9, if it's an Epson, there is a good chance that it is.

I can't tell you, it remains to be seen when you'll have a completely empty cartridge, but not knowing this brand, I can't tell you more, sorry.

Currently, it's telling me to change the magenta, but I can't do anything else, I can't print in black and white despite this message. The printer screen remains on "change toner" and I can't exit.
