[POWER SUPPLY] What is EPS 12v???

So here I just read a topic about the Code2Duo that, according to this article, requires a special connector called EPS without which it's impossible to get the beast running.

To begin with, is it true? And what is this connector?

Is the Core2Duo the only one that asks for this EPS, or do other processors require it as well? Does the ATX 2.2 standard necessarily include that EPS is available, or does that have nothing to do with it?

Thanks!!

Thank you for this response; I understand the difference between ATX1 and ATX2 (the first one having 20 pins and the second one having 24 pins). The issue is that some motherboards do not have a 4-pin 12V connector but an 8-pin connector, which is the case with the one I would like to choose.

I found a first possibility of a power supply with that famous 8-pin connector, and I found others that have two 4-pin connectors. Will connecting the two 4-pin connectors where the 8-pin connector is on the motherboard work?

    Hi webtherider

Dual-core processors can be mounted on motherboards with LGA775 or AM2 sockets, that is, with a power supply of the Pentium P4 type = ATX 20-pin power supply plus a 4-pin connector

Regarding an EPS power supply = ???
    PFC power supply 24-pin + 4-pin = yes

My problem is that I only have an 8(4+4) pin ATX12V / EPS12V connector to connect to the ATX12V 8 pin "socket" on my motherboard.
Can I still plug my EPS12V connector into the regular ATX12V connector on the ATX12V 8 pin socket?
Or should I simply connect the ATX12V part (4 pins) of my connector?

    See you+

      Hello newbie,

it's specified in your motherboard manual
depending on the processor you have

    Good evening,
Can I still connect my Eps12V connector with the regular Atx12V connector to the Atx12V 8-pin socket?

To properly identify your connectors, look here:

The main ATX connector currently has 24 pins in 2 rows, it's the general power supply for the motherboard.

The EPS 12V connector currently has 8 pins, sometimes in 2 groups of 4, to be connected to the special EPS connector on the motherboard, near the CPU: it's the CPU power supply.
