Hello,

I would like to know if there's a way to find out (without opening it unnecessarily) if there are slots for a hard drive in a 17" laptop.
If anyone has a small utility for that, I would appreciate it!

Thanks in advance

Configuration: Windows 8 / Chrome 22.0.1208.0

Why not without opening the laptop? There are probably only one or two screws to remove from underneath the PC, the panels are clearly visible... Isn't it a bit complicating things? If you had to remove the keyboard or completely disassemble the machine, I wouldn't say anything, but here it's really easy!

It's easy, well it depends on the beast and it's for my brother so I don't want to screw it up^^
And I think that when you open it, you lose the warranty so I'd rather not do it for nothing
      Thanks for the reply

Lose the warranty? That would be surprising; the only way is if there was a seal (label on the trap), which hasn't been done for a long time... well, it's easy to peel off cleanly.

no, it's in the terms of sale, they specify that the warranty is no longer valid if the PC has been opened.
And as easy as it may be, I don't want to mess things up since it's not my PC! I'm looking for a software or other means to obtain this info.

+1 with rlo73, the trapdoor that hides the hard drive is not protected and it won't void your warranty...

If you really don't want to open your laptop or void the warranty, the best thing to do is to call customer service who will provide you with information, and since no one here is a fortune teller, without more info how do you expect us to help you? What brand, model, etc... of laptop???

Finally, I've rarely seen two slots in a laptop, except on an HP DV8000 with a 17" screen

And lastly, a SLOT since you're using that term, is a slot for an expansion card or a processor, in no case for a hard drive.

It is indeed a 17" PC. I have an Acer 7730 ZG which has two slots, I happened to read that on a forum so that's why I'm asking about my brother's 17" PC.
What I'm looking for is a small utility, I had found one that showed the number of RAM slots, the number of used slots, etc.
And I wanted to know if there’s one that shows the number of HDD slots, that’s all. And I don't have the model of the PC right now, sorry.
