Hello,
I am subscribed to NUMERICABLE (high-speed internet + unlimited phone). I have a NETGEAR CBVG834G modem. I want to tell you right away that I am a novice when it comes to computers and I don't know much about the internet. However, until now I have been connecting to my modem via Wi-Fi (by entering the SSID, checking "WPA," and then typing the WEP key of my modem). But I think this is not really secure, and I would like to know how to add a password. From what I have read in NUMERICABLE's instructions, I need to open the interface of my modem at http://192.168.1.1. However, no matter how hard I typed this in my address bar, nothing happened. Could you please tell me how to open this interface so that I can connect via Wi-Fi with additional security? If you have any tips to further secure my Wi-Fi connection, I would really appreciate it. Thank you very much for your help, which is truly invaluable to me. Have a great day, everyone.

Configuration: Windows 7 / Internet Explorer 9.0

Hello,

If your current key is a "WPA/WPA2" key (as you suggest), there’s no need to change anything.
If your current key is a "WEP" key, you need to change it and set a WPA key.

To connect to the modem, you need to:
1. Be connected to the modem via WiFi or cable
2. Connect to the modem locally. From what I read online, the address you are using is incorrect. The "correct" address seems to be https://forums.commentcamarche.net/forum/affich-4068303-emule-configuration-netgear-cvg834g. Username "admin" and password "password". Once connected, check the security settings.

From your post, I deduce that you need to input the SSID (= the name) of the network yourself. This is an additional security measure. I think your WiFi is well secured.
