This fraudster has arrived in the Indian Ocean.
Advertisement in a sector of Île de la Réunion (you could say Africa isn’t far from us, but still....).
I’m a "local" and I admit I was seduced by such a beautiful house, so cheap, especially in an area in the North of the island known for being expensive. I’ll spare you the details; they are the same as in all the emails published above, except for the neighborhood and surroundings....
He’s quite clever as he even goes so far as to inquire about the infrastructure around, the common local last names, and he even provides pretty pictures of the inside of the house (but curiously no façade, nor even a garden...) to make it seem more real.....
I admit we initially thought it was a rare gem. He quickly changed his tone when we asked for the exact address to see the outside of the house and its location. We received a reply as long as my arm, with many characters in bold red and underlined, reproaching a little "joker" (that’s the only word spelled correctly by the way) for having made him and his spouse go out for nothing (ah yes, because I got the local couple whose husband was assigned to the mainland.... that’s common around here, but with French as deplorable as that of the email, I wouldn’t give much for the company that hired him -_-*....), that they needed assurance that we would indeed take the house but that if we sent them the cash mandate urgently, they needed 72 hours for it to arrive and settle the matter (when you know the price of a ticket even in low season to come here, that alone is ridiculous!!!!)
My faith, I am very sorry for the person who lost their money. Hoping this forum helps them recover it.

Mouarff... Electricity included in the fees! As well as the 'Garbage' Tax.. Great, but a bit weird anyway.. And all that for really cheap... The guy from Charleroi (Côte d'Ivoire) must be a benefactor... At this point, the 'guarantee' deposit via Western Union hasn't been mentioned yet.. It's coming due to candidates who had the audacity not to show up for the appointment and the poor guy from Charleroi making the trip for nothing.. Let's point out to this kind-hearted landlord that there are so-called 'real estate' agencies that can handle the visits..
I experienced the same thing today; fortunately, we think a bit in these cases, and that testimonials like ours are published online to prevent future victims from being fooled!!! As for me, the first two emails are IDENTICAL (except for the location of the transfer, which was the United Kingdom).
I was also a victim of this scam, but I didn't go any further.
I saw the ad, and being naturally cautious, I thought it was too good to be true, but I still gave it a try, and bam, the same email that I received, so I started doing some research online and found out it was a scam, so I didn't go any further....
I'm sending you the same one that I received on my end.

If I am renting the apartment at this price, it is not for financial reasons but to help those in need. In reality, I am worried about the maintenance of the apartment, and that is why I am looking for an honest, irreproachable, and trustworthy person who can take care of it. So if you are interested in my property, do not hesitate to contact me.

Names or pseudonyms change, but the scam attempt remains the same
Major scam development: The Urgent Cash Mandate is a clone of Western Union. Payable only in France to an accomplice
It's quite simple: if you can't show what you're renting
it’s easy to hire an agency in the city for visits and rentals
Any other procedure is a scam
In response to an urgent cash mandate request, you will never receive a real address
Name, City, Street, No. with the "workers" from cyber cafés in Africa
For logical reasons, do not make money transfers for the benefit of a person you do not know in person and thus to an "unknown"

2nd email:
Hello,
I acknowledge receipt of your email, and I want to assure you that you have no worries regarding the rental of our property. We remind you that we do not rent it for money but just to avoid leaving it empty and unmaintained; we carefully read your email and understand your current situation, the accommodation is furnished, but if you wish to install your own furniture, we can store ours so that you can set up yours, internet connection available... But we must inform you that we are not currently on site to quickly proceed with a potential visit, as we must take our safety measures for our trip, as I will personally go down with my accountant to show you our property, so we would not like to make several trips just for the rental of our accommodation, but to ensure that everything goes according to regulations, I must assure you that our offered property is as it is in the photos, in very good condition. However, to avoid wasting time between you and me, you need to gather all the requested documentation beforehand, before we meet on-site, because once on-site, if our property interests you, after the visit, we will proceed to the lease signing and the handing over of the keys in exchange for the document and the deposit and first month's rent for immediate integration into our accommodation on the day of the visit.
Here is the list of documents to be provided on the day of the visit if it suits you.
- An employer's certificate if you have one
- Last two tax notices if you have them
- A copy of your identity card
- 1 month deposit
- 1 month of rent
I propose a meeting on Friday 02/08/13 at 6 p.m., does that suit you? If so, please come with the complete file mentioned above as I do not wish to return there for jokers like I experienced last time. For the deposit and the first month's rent, they will be deposited at the post office against a receipt for the "Urgent Cash Mandate" and it is with this receipt that you will come to the appointment, not forgetting of course the other documents. You will go to the post office with the cash of €800 and ask to make a Mandat-Cash-Urgent with my accountant's details. Once you have completed the Urgent Cash Mandate, you will be given a receipt that will contain an identifier that will be used to withdraw the money. It is this receipt that you must keep safely on you, and as soon as we are at the meeting, if after the visit it suits you, after signing the lease you will give me the receipt of the payment slip in exchange for the keys to my property, but if not, you will return to the post office for the withdrawal of your money. Just for our safety measures, but after doing business, we will give you our RIB so that all the rents will be automatically transferred to my account at the end of each month.
P.S. The Urgent Cash Mandate does not mean that you send me money. NO. It's just a Postal Deposit to guarantee your desire to rent our property because understand that you are not the only client interested, in addition to the fact that we have been through several fake appointments before. So if you are still interested, please establish the Urgent Cash Mandate of €800 as soon as possible and confirm its effectiveness to me by email...
We require such a procedure just for our safety measures, so that we can consider our appointment as possible for Friday. These are in a way a guarantee on my part and a reservation on yours. Below I leave you a copy from the postal bank regarding a more moderated explanation of the Urgent Cash Mandate procedure in a post office.
Here are the details of my accountant for completing the URGENT CASH MANDATE at the post office.
Name: PAYS
First Name: SYLVAIN
Deposit of: €800
Type of mandate: Urgent Cash Mandate
You can contact me at 0022 9631 8389 for more details

Hello,
I see that you all were smarter than me; I fell for it and lost a very large sum of money. I'm now trying to gather as much information as possible about this so-called owner to have a small chance of getting my money back. I saw on several forums that there is almost no chance of catching him, but if all the people who had contact with him can provide some information (phone number, internet connection time, anything and everything), there is a small chance that the people who fell victim to this scam will see their money again one day.
Thank you for your help!

Hello,
Well, thank you, because at least I know right away that it's a scam.
The second one since I've been looking for an apartment in Lyon.
I had doubts at first about the first one because it was too good to be true, but I still tried, but I had no doubts left when they asked for an urgent cash mandate.
The second one seemed more credible, the one from Bernard Manset, on Le Bon Coin, but it was too perfect in his response email, hence my search on the internet which led me here.
They still build trust by adding photos and giving geographical details, plus not too many typos, maybe the style is a bit pompous ^^
Finally, here are the emails from the 2 people:
- For the first one, however, there is no signature, but the name is Raissa Demone:
Hello,
My apartment is still available.
Following your response to my ad, I would like to clarify a few details regarding it:
My apartment is located at (106 Rue du Président Édouard Herriot, Lyon 2) furnished studio, the rent is €380 per month, including charges (water, electricity, gas, garbage, heating, caretaker) Internet ADSL and WIFI connection. PARKING included in the building. Possibility to benefit from APL. Furnished studio, consisting of a main room, a separate, fitted kitchen, and a bathroom with WC. Very quiet apartment.
Regarding the rental of my apartment, please send me the information below to arrange a date for the visit.
Name....
First name.........
Phone..................
Full address...................
Monthly salary.......
Duration of the lease..............
Number of people in the apartment..........
Waiting for your email response.
Best regards.
Good evening,
Thank you for these details.
Here are the documents to provide on the day of the visit if it suits you.
* An employer's certificate or employment contract.
* If you are self-employed: the tax notice or the last income declaration.
* The last rent receipts.
* One month's deposit, which will be returned at the end of your lease contract.
* A security deposit of one month's rent.
I propose Wednesday, August 14 at 5:30 PM for the visit and signing of the lease, does that suit you?
If so, then you will come with a complete file as above because I do not want to come back there for jokers like I experienced last time. For the deposit and the first rent, they will be deposited at the post office in exchange for a receipt from the urgent cash mandate, and it is with this receipt that you will come to the meeting without forgetting, of course, the other documents.
If my apartment suits you, then you will send me the receipt of the urgent cash mandate and the other documents in exchange for the keys to my apartment and the signing of the rental contract. But in case it does not suit you, you cancel the rental and go back to the post office to recover your money without any problem since you still have the post receipt with you at that moment.
P.S. The Urgent Cash Mandate does not mean that you send me money or pay me before visiting my apartment. NO. It's just a secure postal deposit, to guarantee your desire to rent my apartment because I have been for several fake appointments. So you will have to make 1 Urgent Cash Mandate at the post office. Once the mandate is done at the post office, a receipt will be given to you for the withdrawal of the money. It’s this receipt that you must keep carefully until the day of our meeting for the visit. Once at the meeting after the visit and signing of the rental contract, you will hand me the receipt of the Urgent Cash Mandate in exchange for the keys to my apartment. But in case the apartment does not suit you (which I doubt), you cancel the rental and go back to the post office to withdraw your money without any problem since you still have the post receipt with you.
P.S.: So if you understood correctly, give me your agreement in principle so that I can send you the contact details of my financial manager, which you need to make the security deposit.
Waiting to hear from you to proceed with the appointment
Best regards.
- and the second one, the previously mentioned one, Bernard Manset:
Hello,
I am writing this email to thank you for the attention you have given to my ad. I rent it for €340 per month, all charges included (water; garbage; gas and electricity) with the option to take it unfurnished.

Regarding the rental, the apartment is still available and is already vacant in very good condition and is fully furnished. I rent it for €340 per month, all charges included (water; garbage; gas and electricity) with the option to take it unfurnished.
If I rent the apartment at this price, it is not for financial reasons but to help those in need. In reality, I worry about the maintenance of the apartment, and that is why I am looking for an honest, irreproachable, and trustworthy person who can maintain the apartment. So if you are interested in my property, do not hesitate to contact me.

Hello,
I acknowledge receipt of your email. I want to assure you that you have nothing to worry about regarding the rental of our property. We remind you that we do not rent it out for money but simply to avoid leaving it empty and unmaintained; we have read your email and understand your current situation. The apartment is furnished, but if you wish to install your own furniture, we can store ours so you can set up yours. Internet connection is available... However, we must inform you that we are currently not on the premises for a quick visit because we must take our security measures for our trip, as I will personally be coming with my accountant to have you visit our property. Therefore, we wouldn't like to make several trips just for the rental of our accommodation, but to ensure that everything goes according to standards, I must certify that our property is in very good condition as shown in the pictures. On the other hand, to avoid wasting time between you and me, you must gather all the required documents beforehand before we meet on-site, because once we are there, if our property interests you, after the visit, we will proceed to sign the lease and hand over the keys in exchange for the documents and the deposit for the month and the rent for immediate integration into our accommodation on the day of the visit.
Here is the list of documents to provide on the day of the visit if it suits you.
- A certificate from the employer if you have one
- The last two tax notices if you have them
- A copy of your identity card
- 1 month's deposit
- 1 month's rent
I propose a meeting on Monday, 02/09/13 at 6 PM. Does that suit you? If so, please come with a complete file as mentioned above because I do not want to go back there for pranksters like I experienced last time. For the deposit and the first month's rent, they will be deposited at the post office against a receipt from the "Mandat Money Gram," and it is with this receipt that you will come to the appointment, not forgetting of course the other documents. You will go to the post office or a Money Gram office with the cash of €700 and ask to make a Mandat Money Gram with my accountant's details. Once you have completed the Mandat Money Gram, you will receive a receipt that will have an identifier needed to withdraw the money. This is the receipt that you must keep securely with you, and as soon as we are at the appointment, if after the visit, our property suits you, after signing the lease, you will hand me the receipt of payment in exchange for the keys to my apartment. However, if not, you will return to the post office or Money Gram office to withdraw your money. Just for our security measures, but after we have made the deal, we will provide you with our RIB so that all rents will be automatically deposited into my account at the end of each month.
P.S. The Mandat Money Gram does not mean that you are sending me money. NO. It is just a postal deposit to guarantee your intention to rent our property because understand that you are not the only client interested, in addition to the fact that we have already experienced several fake appointments. So if you are still interested, please establish the Mandat Money Gram for €700 as soon as possible and confirm its effectiveness to me by email...
We require such a procedure just for our security measures, so that we consider our meeting as possible for Monday. In a way, this is a guarantee on my part and a reservation for yours.
Here are the details of my accountant for completing the MANDAT MONEY GRAM at the post office or at a Money Gram office.
Name: GADOU
First Name: JUNIOR
Deposit of: €700
Address: 23 Rue Pastorelli 06000 Nice
Destination Country: France
Type of mandate: Mandat Money Gram
Receive our sincere greetings
Sincerely
Mr MANSET

Anyway, is there anything to worry about moving forward? Since I haven't sent anything other than my first and last name?
Thank you for your responses.
Nothing to worry about on that front, just drop it, and don't respond to their emails anymore.
See you!
