Hi!

So here it is, I'm installing my virtualbox, with a Linux Ubuntu image as the disk. Everything goes well until I start the machine: I'm asked for a password. I didn't fill in any "password" fields during the installation, so I'm a bit lost. HALP plz :)

Configuration: Windows 7 / Chrome 23.0.1271.64

    Hello,

I didn’t fill in any “password” fields during the installation.
In my opinion, you must have skipped a step ;-(
Moreover, on Ubuntu, the user password (the first one created) is also the superuser (root) password, so that’s an essential step.

      Hi, thanks for your reply.
On the virtual version I downloaded, the username/password is provided by the person who uploaded it (I just realized that).

But you’re telling me that normally I choose my password during the installation? Maybe I downloaded the wrong version?

Well no, if you downloaded an unofficial and pre-installed image, then that's normal.

Could we have the address of the site where you downloaded it? Thank you.

ok and then you just need a simple #sudo passwd root to set the root password

Okay, and then it just takes a simple #sudo passwd root to set the root password
      I suppose a simple:
      passwd
as a user should be enough ;-)

      I downloaded it here: http://virtualboxes.org/images/ubuntu/
      Thank you.
