Hello,
I bought a Denver KCR610 MP3 Alarm Clock Cube to transfer my MP3 songs from the computer to the cube. There is no installation CD, just the USB cable. When I plug in my cube, the Hardware Add Wizard asks me for the software!! However, the manual states: operating system: no driver required for Windows Me or later versions. I have Windows XP 2000. Please help me transfer my songs.

Well, I personally have the alarm clock in question. I can't send the manual right now because I don't have a scanner, but here's basically the user guide:
there's a normal mode/setup mode switch at the back of the device
the round buttons are for setup mode and the triangular buttons are for normal mode
setup mode
- left round button: makes the hours blink and allows you to toggle between hour/minute/day/alarm hour/alarm minutes for adjustment.
- middle round button: serves as the + button (to increase hours, minutes, etc. during adjustment)
- right round button: serves as the - button (to decrease)
normal mode
left round button: serves to activate or deactivate the alarm
left triangular button: serves to play music (independently of the alarm)
center triangular button: short press: skip to the next song / long press: increase the volume
right triangular button: short press: go to the previous song / long press: decrease the volume
The last song played will be the alarm song. It will be played at the same volume, so be careful if you don't want to be abruptly awakened!
To add music, it's very simple: you connect your alarm clock to a Windows 2000/XP computer and use Windows Explorer to add music, just like on a USB drive.
That's pretty much all you need to know to use the alarm clock.
Regarding the issue with linalande (it's nice to see I'm not the only person from Annecy who owns this alarm clock, lol), I would recommend using an external memory card reader (available at attractive prices, some for less than €10 and in various forms: USB stick, external device, etc...) which would allow you to put music on your card without having to connect your alarm clock. Then you just need to put your card back into the alarm clock for it to work. Do some research!
Good luck everyone! -

I brought my cube back to the store's customer service. After keeping it for a week, the salesperson told me everything was working!! I tried again, but my computer is still asking for the installation software. Grrrr. Next time, I'm buying a more well-known brand!! I was given the customer service phone number. I'm going to call them. And if you're interested, I'll keep you updated.

I also brought the cube in question back to the store; it was exchanged for me, but the problem remains the same.
I contacted Zeal by email to get some information, but I haven't received a response yet. I'll wait until the end of the week and then I'll bring it back for a refund.
I'll keep you updated. -

Hello, I can't say that my problem interests many people!!
And for the batteries, I did put in the right ones. Any other ideas?-
Hello
I put in 2 rechargeable batteries 1.2 and two 1.5 batteries, and everything works!!
My alarm clock is recognized under XP and Vista
I had more trouble with Vista, but you really need to have the card with songs, and especially connect the PC and alarm clock, then remove the batteries, and then put them back in. It was at that moment that my PC recognized the alarm clock.
In fact, there should have been a power button, but in the absence of that, you have to remove the batteries!!!

hello everyone
I bought the same product .. actually, your MP3 alarms all work very well !!
you have to understand that there is no internal memory (like small MP3 sticks).. It's not mass storage but a player that accepts flash memory ..What serves as storage memory is an SD card that must be inserted into the player .. It won't work without it !! hence, in the manual it states, internal memory of 32 to 1 GB (optional) .. So you need to buy, in addition to the player, a small SD card containing a minimum of 32 MB to a maximum of 1 GB (it's not very expensive now)
And if despite that, you still can't read your MP3s, don't worry, it means your 4 batteries are not sufficiently charged (these little things are very energy-consuming!!).. So, use rechargeable batteries..
Alright, good music to everyone and good night !!-

You're welcome dear Linalande
That damn manual is very poorly written!! :-)
One last point: When you insert the small SD card into the slot, don't worry if it seems to go very deep until it's flush with the device, that's normal!! There will be a little click to secure it!! And to remove it, you have to press gently a little further inside, which will eject it. Also, don't buy a card larger than 1GB, it's not worth it, it won't work because it has to be FAT16 and it's designed to only handle that maximum size (trying beyond that is at your own risk..)
Alright, bye bye -

Good evening everyone,
I was given the famous cube, but without instructions, packaging, etc.
I managed to transfer and listen to music on the 256 MB SD card without any problems, however, I don't know how to set MP3 songs as ringtones for the alarm, which currently works with a dreadful BEEP.
If anyone has the manual, I would appreciate it.
Thanks and see you soon.

Mine works very well with a 128MB DanElec SD card. However, does anyone know if there is a way to lower the volume of the mp3 track for the alarm?

good evening everyone
I bought the SD card for my cube but nothing has changed. My computer still asks for the installation software for the cube which does not exist! I connected the USB cable from the cube to the computer, which does not recognize the device. Need help. Thank you. Linalande -
you need an SD card (available at large retailers in the digital photo section or on cdiscount.com for about €12 for a maximum of 1GB)
once the card is inserted into the alarm clock, when you plug in the USB, the computer recognizes a removable disk of 1GB.
just transfer your MP3s from the PC to the removable disk.
be careful, you need new batteries or ones in very good condition, otherwise only the time will work. -
Note: the card must be properly formatted in FAT
Sometimes new cards are in RAW mode
and the cube cannot read the mp3
Otherwise, I have a question: the time displays for me in English format (AM/PM)
Has anyone found the magic combination to have the time in French format (23H00)? -
Hi, I just acquired a cube, but I bought it at a flea market, and without the manual!!!
I managed to set the time, but I can't figure out how to manage the card with the music...
Otherwise, it works great with my 1G SD card, I just copied and pasted the music and inserted it!!!
Thank you for your help, I need it for work!!!! -
Hi, could you send me the manual for the cube because I just bought mine at a flea market and I don't have it!!!
I can set the time and my card works very well, but I'm having trouble with the 6 buttons on the front!!!
Thank you for your help, I really need it because I'm going on a trip and I need this thing!!!
Otherwise, some say it uses up batteries quickly... is that true!!
Thanks -
Hello,
I plan to buy one of these cubes, but I admit that reading your discussion is somewhat dissuasive.
I was wondering:
can the cube be powered only by batteries/rechargeables, or is there a socket for a possible adapter (not provided)? Does it consume that much?
If not, would any of you have equivalent models (SD card reader alarm clock) to suggest?
Thank you in advance for any constructive response! -
Hello Linalande. It's a shame about the lack of compatibility: that alarm clock was definitely worth it! But well, as a press book, it's not so bad!
Hello Mr. L!
Honestly, I personally have never had any issues at all. To be fair, I paid €10 for it (a good discount), so the risk was calculated: it works, and that's great.
No, there's no option to plug it in; that's one of its big drawbacks, but with four rechargeable batteries, it works really well, and the battery life is really good (for me, I haven't charged it in almost two months), as long as it doesn't serve as a hi-fi system...
After that, I must admit it's the only model I've seen in this style. At Géant, they currently offer an upgraded model, bigger, more expensive, and apparently equipped with three audio outputs (but the sound of this one is already exceptional for an object of this size), and otherwise, on www.pearl.fr, they had one for USB key.
There you go, I hope I've shed some light on your lantern! -
Hello, I have the same problem. I have the memory card, but when I want to put my songs on the cube, my computer asks me to insert a disk. Thank you for replying, please.
-
Well, your computer is asking for drivers... the problem is that they don’t exist. It actually depends on the versions of Windows (personally, I had no issues with Vista). The best thing is to use a memory card reader: you can find them everywhere, they cost €10, they connect to your PC via USB and then allow you to directly transfer data to the card without going through the alarm clock.
Good luck -
Hello,
I also have this cube. Well, I don't have any functional problems, but I've lost the manual and I would really like to set the time. If someone could scan the manual for me or just tell me how to set the time, that would be awesome.
As for the issues you're facing, I took a shortcut; I fill out my card and then put it in the cube. That way, there's no need for driver updates or software.
See you later and thanks! -
ps : I forgot to mention, I did read Lord's post, but in setup mode, when I press the left round button, it deactivates the alarm (as if I were in normal mode)... Is it serious, doctor?
-
Well, well, well... my first cube gave up the ghost not long ago. In fact, I noticed that the cube was very fragile and the buttons tended to stop responding (unless you pressed really hard). Probably a manufacturing defect... I think your problem comes from that and indeed it's quite serious lol! Maybe shaking it a bit... but be careful, it might get worse lol... On the other hand, you need to press and hold the button in setup mode... just in case you didn't think of that lol
Good luck! -
Good evening everyone, good evening Bob,
how do you create a shortcut? And how do you fill your SD card? Thank you. Linalande -
When Bob says he took a shortcut, it's just a figure of speech: he has a card slot for SD cards on his PC (like a USB port but for SD cards), which allows him to directly put the songs on his card. Then, he just needs to put the card back in the alarm clock to have music.
SD card readers can be found almost everywhere and are inexpensive: for example: http://photo.fnac.com/a1605981/Accessoire-image-et-son-Lecteur-et-adaptateur-memoire-SanDisk-lecteur-5-en-1?Mn=-1&Ra=-50&To=0&Nu=7&Fr=2
