Hello,
After reading several tutorials and carefully following the instructions, I still can't print. The printer is visible when I try to add a printer in Windows > freebox > ... I can install it, but when I start a print job, it says that the password is incorrect. On the Windows sharing settings in http://mafreebox.free.fr/, I've tried both with and without authenticated access. With it, I get a communication problem with the printer, and without it, an authentication error...
I have a Mac running Lion and a Freebox Revolution. Can someone help me? Thank you in advance.

Hello,
With or without a box, it seems complicated, even impossible; in any case, I haven't succeeded either! Madam's laptop sees it but that's all.
It seems that you need a wifi printer to succeed.

When it's urgent, it's already too late (Talleyrand)-
Good evening Dédé,
It is indeed often a real struggle -_-
But it is definitely possible; all the recent boxes even have a dedicated function for that and I've managed to do it several times.
In fact, the printer is connected to the box (USB/network/WiFi) and when we print, we send the print job to the box (to its IP) and it is the box that takes care of printing. -
Good evening black eagle,
You will tell me so much!!
I keep the info, but then, if I want to print from the Mac, do I also have to go through the box?
According to Apple, I need to install Bonjour for PC and use it on the Mac, but after some research and attempts, I gave up, having never been able to start a print from the PC.
I will try your solution. Thank you ;-)
But, I don't have a USB port on my C-I Box!!
Therefore, my printer cannot go through it. -
Club-internet? Does that still exist?
Indeed, everything goes through the box, which prevents having a computer serving as a print server constantly turned on.
It's great when it works because everyone can use the printer from their computer, but sometimes it works easily and other times no matter how much you try, there's nothing to be done -_- -

Hello everyone,
SUBJECT
Installing a printer by connecting it via USB to a FREE BOX V5 ADS
knowing that the computers are:
- PC running XP
- IMAC Snow Leopard OSX 10.6.8
Normally, installing on the PC shouldn't be an issue through the BONJOUR application. There are plenty of posts about this topic online.
So let's assume the PC is capable of printing through the FREEBOX.
1- You need to retrieve the IP address of the PC by:
Start
Run
type: cmd
ok
At the blinking prompt type: ipconfig /all don't forget the space between / and all
Note the IP address (in the format 192.168.x.x)
type exit
enter
Now, let's retrieve the printer's share name:
Start
Printers and Faxes
Right-click on the printer marked with a check in the black circle. This is the active printer.
Properties
Sharing
Note the share name.
ok
Close everything and move on to the IMAC.
On the MAC
System Preferences (FINDER - apple) or (FINDER - Macintosh HD - Applications - System Preferences) gear icon on black square.
In Hardware click on Printers and Faxes
If you already have printers listed in the "Printers" list and you only want to use the one connected via USB to the FREEBOX, you can remove them.
Click on it then on - (bottom of the window)
When the list is empty, click on +
You arrive at the "Add Printer" page
We will select the printer manually:
Press the ctrl key
And while holding it down, click on the "Default" icon (at the top)
choose: customize the toolbar
Type in the gear icon Advanced Options and drag it into the toolbar of the "Add Printer" page
click on Done.
Click on Advanced Options which is now in the toolbar of the "Add Printer" page
the circle spins and searches
click on Type and choose Windows
Leave Device as it is
URL
Leave the existing signs in place and add after // the IP address of the PC you noted down, which gives smb://192.168.x.x where you replace the x with the values from your IP
Name: you note the share name you saved.
Location: Leave it blank, you can type "printer on USB FREEBOX"
Print using: look for (small arrows to the right) "select printer software" then the one that corresponds to yours by scrolling.
ok
Add
And there you go.
To test:
open the print queue
click on >> (double arrow next to supply levels)
printer configuration.
utility
Print a test page.
Best regards. -
Lune-à-gateaux,
I have the same setup as you. Now, it works. I had a lot of trouble getting the printer to appear in windows>workgroup>freebox. I had to unplug it and plug it back into the different USB ports of the freebox for it to appear like magic after 2 days.
When there was the login window with username and password, I entered:
Guest
Guest
with a capital G. I think it comes from Windows. Have you tried that? Also, make sure to check the "remember password" box. -
Good evening,
I just acquired an iMac running OS X, and I'm desperately trying to configure my Canon printer connected via USB to my Freebox V5, which has been working perfectly since I got the Freebox V5 with my two PCs.
I followed your instructions to the letter (I have an IPv4 address, does that have any impact)?
For the password that is requested, I entered mine in lowercase as usual. I saw in the last comment that G Gogo had entered Guest with a capital G (is that the password that needs to be entered? Or should I use mine, trying with the first letter capitalized?)
Next to the printer, there’s a green dot followed by “inactive, last used”
When I connect the printer directly to the iMac, there are no issues with the configuration and it works well.
Could someone help me out?
Thanks in advance and have a good evening.

Hello,
What G Gogo says is actually clear!
"When there was the login window with username and password, I entered:
Guest
Guest
with a capital G. I think it comes from Windows. Did you try that? While you're at it, check the 'remember password' box."
So it's not your personal password but indeed;
username = Guest
password = Guest -
Hello,
Thank you for the response.
I just tried typing Guest as the password and I received the following error message:
Support code: 306 a communication error has occurred, please check that the printer is plugged in, powered on, and correctly connected to the computer. Then try to start the printing again.
Of course, the printer is plugged in and powered on, but it is connected to the Freebox and not to the computer.
I don’t know what to do anymore.
Best regards. -
I haven't read this message: https://forums.commentcamarche.net/forum/affich-8724655-serveur-d-impression-freebox-sous-mac-os-x but since it's marked as "resolved," there might be a way to do it!
Otherwise, you need to go to the Freebox support site. -
Hello,
Thank you all for your help, but I have not managed to find an answer that will solve my problem; I will check with Apple Support.
If you have encountered the issue and resolved it, please let me know the steps to take.
Initially, I connected my printer directly, and it works, but I prefer to go through the Freebox so that I can access the printer from all my computers without having to turn on the iMac.
Best regards -
Hello,
Same error message: "Authentication required Support code: 306 a communication error occurred, please check that the printer is plugged in, powered on, and properly connected to the computer. Then try restarting the print job."
However, the same printer, with exactly the same setup, works perfectly from another Mac connected to the same network.
Apparently, the system is requesting authentication, but not only have I disabled the authentication request in the Freebox settings (I also tried with authentication enabled) but additionally, there is no dialog box to enter authentication data...
I should mention that I configured another network printer, which works without any issues...
I don’t understand anything...
Thank you if anyone has a solution.

Hello,
When I enter the Guest credentials and the Guest password and try to start the printing, it shows "printing in progress" then "ready to print" and no matter if I restart or not, it never prints.
I'm on Mac OS 10.9. The annoying thing is that it works perfectly with my roommate and his Windows.
Thank you in advance. -
Hello,
here is my setup:
MBP under Mavericks (10.9) and Freebox Revolution (V.6)
to install a network printer I did the following:
1 - Connect your printer via USB to the Freebox server box
2 - Apple menu > System Preferences > Printers and Scanners
There, click the little + to add a new printer,
a window opens, click on 'windows'... (yes, I know...)
WORKGROUP appears, click on it,
freebox_server appears, click on it,
a window asks for your name and password for the print server.
This is where confusion can happen.
Type: name: FREEBOX and for the password, the one you chose when installing your server (FREEBOX OS).
You can choose to save the password in the keychain (or you'll have to retype it for every print...!)
If everything matches, the name of your printer appears in the add window.
Click on it then in the 'choose a driver' window.
In the dropdown menu, click on 'select software', a window opens offering a list where you should find the name of your printer.
Confirm.
That's it. I hope this will save you hours of hassle.-
Attention, you don't necessarily have to type FREEBOX if, like me, you changed the name of the Windows share on OSX. Be sure to use the login you chose instead of the original FREEBOX, otherwise it won't work. (In the Freebox OS, under the Windows shares section, make sure to use the chosen username and password.)

Yes ... indeed, the technique of entering FREEBOX as the login and using the same password you use to log into the freebox as the printing password works.
It just took a moment to think about it ...
Thank you -
CAUTION, the FREEBOX login is not always valid!
In fact, to be 100% sure that it works, you need to follow these steps:
Go to the freebox OS and into the advanced settings.
There, click on the advanced mode tab and then on Windows sharing.
Then, make sure that you have enabled printer sharing and authenticated access.
And especially, make sure to take the login/password defined just below because they are the ones that will allow you to set up a network printer on the Freebox Revolution. If you have set other login/passwords than the default FREEBOX like poi, it will not work when you try to access your network printer...
Once you have done all that, you can then go to the system settings of the Mac and declare a new WINDOWS network printer using the previously noted login/password.
Note that it works perfectly well under Yosemite as well.
