Hello, first of all I’m new to the forum (since today) so thanks for being quite lenient if I didn’t post in the right forum or whatever...

My parents bought a Sony Handycam Video 8 camcorder some time ago. Today I decided to dig out this camcorder and I want to make videos with it, but I don’t know how to transfer them to my PC afterwards. Is it possible already? If so, what hardware or what software is needed? I’m willing to buy a few cables or other connections if necessary.

    Analog video transfer box
    Hello to transfer the content of an analog VHS cassette, VHS-C, 8mm, Hi8 or an analog video stream, you need to connect the camcorder or VCR or another device to an external “box” that handles the conversion “hardware from the analog stream to digital” and connect the box to the computer via a USB cable; the file is converted to MPEG-2, an easy-to-burn format and compatible with all players, and the possibility of editing with a studio
    Connect the box and camcorder with a recommended S-VHS or composite connection (RCA yellow) and a sound cord (2 RCA red, white); for the VCR you need a SCART connection with an adapter or a cord with the direction “out” or with a reverse in out, S-VHS output or composite RCA yellow (less good) plus audio, two RCA red/white outputs
    I recommend the Dazzle box, either Video Creator, Platinum, or Ultimate depending on your need
    the price of the editing software "Studio" provided with it makes the product interesting
    there are cheaper products but beware, it is often a source of trouble in view of
    the misadventures of some on the forum

    since it is 4/3 format, image quality can only be judged on the TV screen once the movie is burned

    I looked into everything you told me and I read that the Dazzle DVD Recorder box only records VHS tapes onto DVDs. It doesn’t digitize them, does it?

    The other boxes are extremely interesting but they’re starting to get a bit expensive, although it will still be cheaper for me than buying a new camcorder.

    And I have one last question: can you find Dazzle boxes in stores?

      The AVERMEDIA DVD EZMaker 7 box is also available on the Fnac website and it seems to suit my needs better.

    We should indeed just engrave, not assemble. You can surely find it in a specialized store, also look on the web for used ones, because once they have copied the cassettes they don’t need it anymore.
