Hello,
I’m looking for a method to block my son’s session after 4 hours of use, for example. He’s a 14-year-old teenager and refuses to obey the rules, staying in front of the computer until 4–5 a.m.! I don’t want to deprive him, but a solution like this would be great.
For example, after 4 hours of login on the session I created for him which is not admin, the PC should shut down after changing the password of his session. This way, after he turns it on again, he won’t be able to log in with the password he has.
What do you think? Do you have any tools you can recommend to achieve this?
Thanks a lot for your help.
Configuration: Windows Vista / Firefox 13.0.1

Hello,
I don’t know of any way to limit the duration of the connection, but I suggest creating a time restriction on their session (for example, banned from logging in at midnight to 8 a.m., even with the correct password: so there is no need to change the password).

Hello,
Thank you very much for your answers, however I have the following questions.
For CMP and fab 2004: does that work under Vista?
For Keim: the download does not work. -
Hello,
the net use commands work under XP, Vista, and Windows 7, but I don’t have Vista on hand to test.
if you have this option under Vista: In the Local Security Settings console, expand Local Policies, then Security Options.
Then double-click the policy Network security: Force logoff when logon hours expire. it should work -
apparently this software is rubbish.
so here is a tutorial under Vista.

Okay, I'll try that and keep you posted.
otherwise wouldn't there be another option to force logout based on the time spent on the session? ^^ -

I can't find the parental control applet in my Control Panel :s !

I just placed the following command to use Net user but I still get the same error message: "Time interval not allowed."
Here is an example:
Net user Alex /time:Monday-Sunday,20:00-23:55
Time interval not allowed.
Did I miss something? -
Hello again,
While following your instructions I got the following error: "The time provided is not a full hour." Here is what I had in the console:
net user Alex /times:Monday-Sunday,20:00-23:55
The time provided is not a full hour.
You will get additional help by entering NET HELPMSG 3764.
net helpmsg 3764
The time provided is not a full hour.
Do you see anything that's wrong?-

After testing on my end (I created a fake user account and tried to apply your restriction), it turns out the command only accepts "hourly" times. If I try to input minutes (I tried 23:55, then 23:30), I get the same error message. So, if you're not against 5 more minutes, try the range 20:00-0:00 (entering that works on my side). Once the command is validated, my test account is indeed blocked after entering the password ("Your account has a usage time restriction that does not allow you to sign in at this time. Please try again later.").

Make sure he can’t change that with the help of a forum helper...
I can see him coming here to tell us: my session ends at midnight with the following message:
"Your account has a time-based usage restriction that does not allow you to log in at this time. Please try again later."
" " " "How to fix this? " " "

the most effective: cut the power to his room after locking the electrical box.

The chair/keyboard interface is the most difficult to configure. -
Thank you very much, I’ve implemented the time restriction ^^ I’ll settle for this solution for now, next step might be the proposal from Rafit Jad Kuldinger lol who knows ...
I will pass the discussion) Resolved.
Thank you again very much. -
Hello, I’ve just seen this topic and I’m a bit in the same situation. I’ve brought my nephew home because he’s not doing anything with his father; anyway that's not the point. Since I brought him back, he’s doing the same thing as at his father’s (it’s been a week). He’s on Facebook etc… instead of looking for an apprenticeship to study mechanics. Anyway, for now I’d like to create a user session for him under Windows 7, easy :-) but later I don’t know if it’s possible like me, so to restrict access to his session with the command "net user... /time" only, I’d like to have time slots with intervals. Here’s what I mean: I want him to have 4 hours of connection per day but in one block. Example: from 10:00 to 11:00, from 14:00 to 15:00, from 18:00 to 19:00 and from 21:00 to 22:00. I hope I’ve been clear enough, and one last question: is it possible to give him Facebook access, say 2 hours per day during these time slots?
Best regards.
