Hello,
I'm currently having a problem with my Wifi network. I have the AOL box for my desktop computer and I bought a wifi card for it so I can connect to the internet with my laptop. It worked fine on the first day, but after two days, my laptop is showing "Windows cannot configure this wireless connection. If you have allowed another program to manage this wireless connection, use that program...." I did some research and tried to resolve the issue by going into services, wireless network auto-configuration, but it still doesn't work. Thank you for giving me a little help as I'm really struggling.

I received the same error message and here is the solution:
Error message:
---------------------------
Wireless Configuration
---------------------------
The network password must be 40 bits or 104 bits depending on your network configuration.
It can be entered as 5 or 13 ASCII characters or 10 or 26 hexadecimal characters.
---------------------------
OK
---------------------------
Solution: My router expects WPA encryption but my Windows driver only supports WEP encryption (weaker)
---------------------------
Wireless Network Assistant
---------------------------
You have chosen to use WPA encryption, but your wireless network card does not support WPA. For more information or updates that enable WPA support, please visit the website of the network card manufacturer.

Thank you, Cam! The thing is, I've already entered it; if you want, it even connects automatically. The problem is that it still doesn't want to connect! I'm cursed, please help me! Thank you very much.
I had forgotten, the worst part is that the other day the little icon in the bottom left no longer indicated the red cross because I was at my girlfriend's house who has the live box that I had previously installed on my PC but it still couldn't connect! Whereas for the first 2 or 3 days, whether at my place with the AOL box or at my girlfriend's place with the live box, the internet was working! Thanks again!
Hello,
I would say that you must have installed the utility provided with your card on your laptop, but apparently your version of Windows supports the connection without this driver or program.
So, uninstall it and connect via the Windows interface only.
There you go...

I have therefore uninstalled the AOL box from my laptop but I am in a place where there is no Wi-Fi, so it indicates "no wireless network detected in range," which is logical. Is this the logical procedure?
Yes yes, then after that you do a manual configuration of the Wi-Fi network, normally by clicking on the Wi-Fi network icon with a little red cross at the bottom right of the taskbar,
it will open the interface for you, you click on configure a network manually, you enter the network name, the WEP key, something with 20 characters like 451hg58et456ir57g6 and here we go... , which should be provided to you when you create the connection.
But you will be within range of this network...

Thank you again for your help, but the problem is that they are asking me to enter the network key and not the WEP key! It might be me who is not going to the right place. Plus, yesterday when I was at home, the list of networks appeared; I saw my AOL box but when I clicked on "connect," it didn't work! What should I do, please?
Hello,
You were on the right track because the network key = the WEP key
to know this key, look under your AOLBox, it should be written WEP key or network key, copy it down when it asks you.
Keep it up, you're almost there :)

So I'm summarizing to make sure I've followed everything correctly
- your connection is recognized
- when you create a new wireless connection, you enter the SSID (identifier or name of your Wi-Fi connection)
- you enter your WEP key correctly
Did I make a mistake?

Well, normally your network key should be more than 8 characters, indeed it seems quite short. Can you provide your encryption type (64 bits, 128 bits, 256 bits)?
IPAddress: 192-168-1-23
Mask: 255-255-255-0
Gateway: 192-168-1-1

Where should I go to find the type of encryption?
Is it normal that in "wireless network configuration" then in "properties" of my AOL box then in "association" then in "authentication" it says "WPA-PSK"?

Check if your AOL box is indeed at 192.168.1.1; if so, the problem does not come from there.
For now, I think you may have wrongly entered your WEP key, as 8 characters seems a bit too few; then again, I could be mistaken.
I have another hypothesis, but it needs to be verified: some internet service providers (Wanadoo, just to name one) require users to install their software; could AOL be doing the same? In that case, you might want to install AOL's software. That said, this is only a hypothesis.

No, that's not normal. Point to WEP encryption or something with WEP in it, then re-enter your WEP key.
There is nothing with WEP, it's either:
*open
*shared
*WPA
*WPA-PSK
*WPA2
*WPA2-PSK
What should I do?

When I enter my network or WEP key in the properties of the AOL box and press OK, it shows me with a box and a big red cross "The network password must be 40 bits or 104 bits depending on your network configuration. It can be entered as 5 or 13 ASCII characters or 10 or 26 hexadecimal characters." I don't understand anything at all!

common sense but of course...
Thank you
