Set up BBox and Wi-Fi router

Solved

Hello,

I am facing a problem, and despite my research, I can't find the solution...

I am connected to the internet via a bbox. I recently renovated a small outbuilding, and I pulled an RJ45 cable. No issues with wired connection; I plug my RJ45 into an Ethernet port of my box, and at the other end, I connect my computer with an Ethernet cable and it works.

But I wanted to be able to connect via Wi-Fi.

I have a Netgear DG834G modem router. I thought that by plugging it in via Ethernet, I could benefit from a Wi-Fi connection, but it’s not working...

Could someone tell me if this is possible, and the steps to follow? Because at this point, I'm starting to tear out the little hair I have left...

Thank you!

Configuration: Mac OS X / Safari 534.57.2

Thank you for coming to my rescue.
My modem is a DG834G V3, which may make it a bit less obsolete? But it's true that I like old stuff... ;-)

I will need a bit more detail if possible. I understood how to disable DHCP on my bbox, but after that my internet didn't work at all.

I had to reset my box to regain my connection.

Here's what I currently have:

DHCP service is enabled

Router IP address
. . .
Subnet mask
255 . 255 . 255 . 0
IP address range start:
192 . 168 . 1 .
end:
192 . 168 . 1 .
Lease
minutes
Assigning a static private IP address to a computer on the local network:

Assigned IP MAC address or computer name
192 . 168 . 1 .

No static IP address assigned.

Is this where I need to assign a static IP address? Which one?

Thank you!

Oh, but it's not about configuring the Bbox. The two actions in question need to be done on the Netgear. The correct LAN IP address could be, for example, 192.168.1.101

The purpose of the maneuver is to turn the Netgear modem-router-wifi into a simple wifi switch. The LAN IP address of the Netgear will therefore have no further role on the network. Except one: to access the Netgear's configuration interface. The Bbox will be the sole master of the entire local network, including for the machines connected to the Netgear. The Bbox will be the only gateway and the only DHCP server.

Excellent, thank you!

It finally works, even though I had the hardest time accessing the configuration page of the Netgear. I eventually managed to do it by connecting to it via ethernet.

Thank you so much for your help, I would never have been able to figure it out on my own.

I now have a functional network throughout the house, including the annex and the garden! Perfect! So, I'm going to wait a bit before putting my Netgear in the museum ;-)

Hello everyone!

I have exactly the same equipment as the person who succeeded, a bbox and an old Netgear.

I followed the procedure and nothing works. Do I need to do other settings (disabling the wifi on the bbox, additional configuration on the router...?)

Thank you in advance for your help :)

Hello!

The DG834G is a little bit outdated (a relic good for the museum), but it should still work as long as it's configured correctly for this use:

- Forced LAN IP on a free IP address in the Bbox addressing scheme
- DHCP server disabled
