Hello,
I have VLC 2.03
I just changed my screen, I now have a 16/9 and as a result I'm looking into VLC again.
Many of my movies have two big black bars that I can reduce by setting the video to 16/9 in the VLC settings
a) Is it possible to set this setting as default in VLC?
b) Can we completely remove the black bars?
c) What is the purpose of the crop function?
I asked all three questions in a single topic because I think they complement each other
Thank you in advance for your help
Configuration: Windows 7 / Safari 536.11

Hello,
1- Maybe if you check 16:9 under Video --> Aspect Ratio, this setting will stay, otherwise you'll have to do the manipulation each time.
In principle, by default in Preset, the player adapts to the resolution of the video, so I don't know if it will work, however...
2 and 3- Cropping means trimming the video, that is to say, for example, cutting out the black bars that may be at the top/bottom or left/right. Therefore, yes, it is possible to completely remove the black bars.
A word about screens, not all of them are in 16:9 (it's often a generalization for describing LCD screens), for example, mine is in 16:10 so even when I put it in full screen, I still have black bars at the top and bottom. To make them completely disappear, I need to set it to 16:10.
Best regards
