Hello!
Here, I have a little (or big) problem concerning "The Godfather."
Let me explain, I received a brand new graphics card (7600GT) last week and I've had nothing but issues. I did several tests and concluded that the card had a construction weakness (green pixels, disgusting shadows, in short, artifacts at the card's default frequencies). When I underclocked it, I didn't have artifacts anymore, and when I returned to the default frequencies, the artifacts disappeared for a while but eventually came back. So I sent it back for service. Despite these artifacts, the card worked reasonably well, and I could play The Godfather without any particular issues. Anyway, last night I reinstalled the old card (ATI 9200SE, not joking, it's original), taking great care to clean the Nvidia drivers (using CleanDriver), I launched The Godfather without much hope about the graphics obviously. Well, the game starts without problems, and during the game, I had artifacts (large triangles coming from the hands, the head, in short, from the characters). I thought it's normal with a piece of junk like the 9200SE. I quit the game and surprise! A big line of green pixels on the desktop while I didn't have this problem in a 2D environment with the 7600GT and I had never had issues with the 9200. The PC started to lag severely, and I managed to free up some memory by killing off some useless processes. Then I ran a DirectX test (which I have in version 9c) and got big green pixels in the tests again. I couldn't understand, so stupidly, I uninstalled the ATI drivers, cleaned them up, and then reinstalled them (Catalyst9.13, these are the latest for the 9200).
No more green pixel issues, no more problems with DirectX, everything seems to be working well, but.... of course there’s a "but," I can't relaunch The Godfather! The game starts to relaunch but crashes after the EA logo. I want to uninstall the game to reinstall it, but I can't uninstall it! It does the same as when I try to launch it... it crashes and back to Windows. And of course, it’s still present in "Add/Remove Programs." Now I understand even less! I try to launch the game from the DVD, and it offers to install it! As if it wasn't installed. Well, at this point, I yell a good bit, I move the "Godfather" folder from Program Files, and once moved, I realize that a lot of files are missing in it. They were definitely there when the folder was in Program Files... (??) Well, I reinstall The Godfather knowing full well that if it’s already installed, the program is going to complain. The install goes smoothly, I try to relaunch the game and there it goes again, crash after the EA logo. I uninstall The Godfather again, and now it works, it properly removes it from "Add/Remove Programs." Re-re-reinstall of The Godfather, but no, there’s no way, it categorically refuses to start... even though I had been able to launch it when I just put my 9200 back. Honestly, I don't understand at all what could have happened. Is it possible that it’s the fact that I have DirectX9c (which I installed for the 7600GT) while I only have a 9200SE? And if that’s the case, how do you uninstall DirectX??
HELP! Any clues please!
I hope I’ve been clear enough, and thanks in advance to those who can shed some light!
Just in case, here's my config

mobo Asus P4SD-LA (it's an HP PC)

Well, I have the same problem as most of you; I install the game, it starts, the "EA" logo appears, a message indicates that this game belongs to EA, etc... and bam! The game stops, Windows looks for a solution but nothing works.
I have a laptop that dates back to December 2008, in other words: Home Vista, AMD Turion X2 Dual Core 2.10 GHz processor, 3.00 GB RAM, ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3450 512 MB graphics card, Direct X 10.1...
Personally, seeing that I'm not the only one with this problem, and noticing other issues with other games that ran perfectly on my old 2004 PC (XP, 256 MB graphics card, 2 GHz processor...) which is theoretically below what I have now (at least in terms of graphical performance), I'm betting on the BAD side of this ****** Windows Vista that several people have talked about before...
Does anyone have a solution regarding my problem with The Godfather? Otherwise, can you give me your opinion on Vista and its "relationship" with games?
Thank you.
