End of the Eragon saga! (Inheritance)

Hello everyone!
I am a big fan of Eragon, and I have never had anything to criticize in these 4 books, which I have all enjoyed enormously. Except for the ending... I can admit that it leaves me perplexed... A lot of details elude me, as well as many unresolved mysteries like Beloth the Wise's belt... And above all, I don’t understand the fact that Eragon is condemned to never return! That he goes to new lands and lives there for the reasons given; that is rather a fate I appreciate, and it is worthy of a beautiful ending. However, it would have been more enjoyable if he could still return to Alagaësia to see his loved ones! Why put barriers to his movements!? I don’t understand why C.P. decided to isolate his Hero... Moreover, after all these events, during the 4 volumes, Eragon and the other characters fight to save their lands from the clutches of Galbatorix! Once all these adventures are over, their goal finally achieved, and Eragon and his loved ones are reunited in peace, he has to leave them already... Likewise, after Galbatorix's death, everything moves too quickly... It is a great pity that there isn’t a passage in the book dedicated to Nasuada's speech, who declares herself as the new Queen, and who especially proclaims and celebrates Eagon's victory over Galbatorix! Not to mention Roran's victory over Barst!
Furthermore, I appreciated that the story between Eragon and Arya was so subtle and delicate, and that it wasn’t overly sentimental like in most novels. Nonetheless, a kiss for the farewell wouldn’t have been unwelcome! That would have changed everything... But that is not the case, and the way the two heroes part bothers me... It is so sudden! So brutal! After so many experiences lived together, how can they say goodbye so simply... And the hope that they will still end up together later is very slim, because as Eragon says in a passage from the book: "Our paths are diverging..." Then, Arya does not go with him and bids him farewell. If the author wanted to leave us imagining how the two of them would unite, he would make sure that the events are possible! They wouldn't have made Arya the new governor of the elven people, etc... In short, I was disappointed by this sad ending... Although the happiest endings aren’t necessarily the best, this one did not deserve to be so bland... A touch of sadness would definitely enhance this ending, but that doesn’t mean it had to take that turn... Since I finished the Inheritance, it feels like a piece of the story is missing from me... I can’t bring myself to accept that everything ends like this, and that there will never be a sequel. Except in the minds of the readers, but those are still limited due to the events of this troubling ending. I would like to share this opinion with other readers, and have them share theirs with me.     I loved this saga to death. Yet the ending disappointed me in an incredible way.
    I found Galbatorix's death strange at first. Maybe I read it wrong, but he just disappeared in an explosion? I loved the idea of the spell that forced him to feel the evil he had done. But I saw him more as being tortured for life rather than disappearing in a flash. On the other hand, I think the power of the Word is too great. Whoever has it is practically the master of the world, and if Eragon hadn't had that flash of genius, they would all have remained there.
    Then I found the ending chaotic. Everything was rushed and disorganized. Eragon jumps from a scene far away to something in Uru'baen. The ellipses follow one another, and months go by between each page. The problems (sharing, etc...) were poorly resolved. We hardly talk about them.
    Moreover, the dragon rider caste and its future seem strange to me. Arya inheriting the green dragon was expected, but it's nice. But her inheriting the throne, no!!! A Dragon Rider cannot have a bias. Besides, she is more of a warrior than a queen, and she is young (for her people). Many elves are more suited to this task.
    However, the widening of the dragon riders to dwarves and urgals seems good and necessary to me. And I had the idea of the games while reading the third book, and I'm happy he had the same one. Murtagh's departure is a good idea. A wandering Dragon Rider is cool, even if it's sad for Nasuada.
    Finally, Eragon's departure seems necessary but horrible. Throughout the saga, I wondered why Eragon had to leave. Flee? Too improbable for me. Hurt and taken away by Arya into the elven forest to heal (becoming a new cripple)? Possible. I even thought he could have been chased away by the peoples who feared he would turn out like Galbatorix. But that's really twisted. He fought for four books to finally be able to live with those he loves, but he doesn't do it. I'm fine with him distancing himself from the caste. I'm fine with him limiting his travels to avoid the influences and quarrels of peoples. But this is too strange. Why abandon Roran? Why cut contact with Orik and Nasuada? And above all, what sane being would abandon love for duty? He will regret it. In 100 years or in 1000 years. When the nostalgia for Roran takes him, he will have to live knowing he missed out on years of sharing his life. I'm surprised the dragons didn't warn him. His duty is important, but it isn't healthy for him to shut himself away alone at the other end of the world, abandoning those he loves. And then there’s the temporary erasure of the dragon rider caste. He leaves behind a dragon rider queen of elves (therefore biased), and it will take at least decades before other dragon riders appear and are trained.
    In short, all of this left me with a feeling of emptiness, and I would have liked at least a kiss or the promise of a maybe later. But not three fingers on the lips and a "Goodbye."

      That's quite a lengthy post, I must say! And of good quality too, as I find your opinions well-structured. I personally agree with you on most of your points ^^. (Except for the fact that I personally didn't want Arya as a dragon rider ^^.)

      Exactly! And that’s precisely what makes me think there could be a comeback of Galba, stronger than ever in the 5th book! :-)

      Yeah, and by the way, it's strange that Galba didn't think to counter that kind of technique before. :-/

      As for the rest, I think the reason for Eragon's departure is quite unjustified. (Saying that he feels too powerful is a bit light, after all.)

      Arya should have gone with him from the start. And it’s a pity that it wasn't the case.

      Disappointing ending, that's true! :-S

      Thank you for responding with this long text, Sirius7375. Indeed, your opinion is well justified! And I agree on all points. And yes, Kirushine, Galbatorix could perhaps return in the 5th volume!! On one hand, it would be good because it would still provide an element of surprise, and his death wouldn’t have been so easy after all... But on the other hand, it might be a bit much, considering that the 5th volume would only consist of deepening certain unresolved mysteries and advancing connections between characters if I understand correctly! So bringing Galba back in a little "volume +" while all this tyranny had finally come to an end would seem a bit exaggerated...

      I completely agree, I hope the author will read us, his "ending" although predictable, leaves us puzzled, dissatisfied, and some things remain unresolved, Angela, Elva, Beloth's belt!!!! Maybe he will make a sequel, I hope for him as well as for us, the only thing I ask him is not to take years to write it!

      C'est pourquoi il y aura un tome 5. Pour moi, Galbatorix a transformé sa chair en énergie dans une tentative désespérée de tuer Eragon, comme l'a fait un elfe à Vroengard. Mais effectivement, qu'il revienne dans le 5 serait préférable pour un bon méchant, rien de mieux qu'un revenant ^^

    I totally agree with you. For me, this ending leaves a taste of... "not finished," actually. The thing is, CP wants to continue writing (not right away, I imagine, given the trouble he had finishing his series), but he clearly states in his acknowledgments that he doesn't intend to just abandon Alagaësia like that. Of course, there will be new characters, but he will continue, and I'm sure we'll learn what happens to our heroes through legends, rumors, or things like that.
    Actually, I say he will take on new characters, but it's not even certain given the freedom he left himself: he can continue telling the adventures of all the characters, even if some will be significantly more interesting than others.
    I do think he played a bit too much on the bland dramatic side of the end of his story. What I mean is that he wanted to create a happy ending while leaving a somewhat bland aftertaste. I think that's a bit poorly done. I also believe he didn't want to make it too happy ending. Since none of his main characters died, something had to weigh down the story a bit.
    Still! She could have ended up with Eragon, Arya!

      I know that the upcoming volumes (maybe there will be a volume 6! Let's hope so!) CP will talk about Angela's past, Brom, and of course continue at least a little with the adventures of Eragon, Saphira, and Arya. Maybe he will surprise us by making a chapter from the point of view of Cuaroc (I don't remember the name well), or something less important like tunneling worms, giant snails! :) That would be funny! :p He will also certainly talk about the new Dragon Riders, Urgals and dwarves, about Nasuada, about all the unresolved mysteries of the saga (there are so many! :o) And he is not completely alone, there are the elves, maybe he will get attached to Lupusangren as much as Arya (not in the same sense of course), he will also certainly talk about Murtagh, maybe Saphira and Thorn will have offspring! :') (this is just a hypothesis), perhaps, in other kingdoms, there are other dragons, he might also, perhaps, talk about the two "elf children," or about Rhunon, the past of the Eldunarì, about Vanir, about Islanzadì's past, more details about the beginning, certainly the release of the wild dragonlings, talk about Vroengard, learn more about Oromis and Glaedr! In short, some seem more likely than others! :D I hope there will be original things!

    Thank you for your response! I also agree with you! There was nothing like that which could relieve me: a sequel!! I also saw it indeed in his acknowledgments, but I thought he would only keep Alageisa as a place but for a new story... And it wasn't clear to me if the characters from Eragon would reappear... And I hope that this one won't disappoint us! ;)
