Hello, I’d like to have a few additional details and confirmation.
The difference between the Z68 and Z77 chipsets is solely that the chipset itself handles USB 3.0 and supports PCI-E 3.0?
And Z75 replaces the P67, is that right?
Because I wanted to buy a motherboard and I saw a ROG Maximus 4 Gene-Z Gen 3 which is a Z68 chipset and which handles PCI-E 3.0, so I wanted to know if it’s better to buy a Z77 motherboard or that one Z68?

The Z77 is compatible PCIe 3.0
The Z68 Gen 3 is compatible PCIe 3.0
The Z68 plain and simple is not.
The difference is surely in the RAM frequency, probably higher, but above 1600 MHz you don’t see any performance difference, except in benchmarks.
Otherwise, I found this passage that I copied.
The differences between the Z77 and the previous generation P67/Z68 are slim. Those who already have such a platform, even if they later want to change the processor to an Ivy Bridge, will find only a very modest interest in changing motherboards. The P67/Z68, once their BIOS is updated, will be able to welcome and enjoy most of the new features of future Intel processors, with the exception, depending on the boards, of PCI Express 3.0.
In fact, if you have a Z68 Gen 3, like me, it’s perfect.
For PCIe 3.0
By the way, the PCI-Express 3.0 interface is in place, as well as DirectX 11.1 compatibility. Backward compatibility is still ensured and the Radeon HD 7970 works perfectly on PCIe 2.0 motherboards. Even better (if you can say that), we did not note any difference between PCIe 3.0 and PCIe 2.0 mode.

Yeah so right now I’m with AMD and I’m thinking about taking a Core i5 3570K with a new platform because AMD in terms of video compression :/
so if I find a motherboard with good quality/price I’ll go with a Z68 or Z77 depending on the price :p

ok , if you’re not an overclocker, so to speak, this cpu is nickel, if you like overclocking, the i5 2500k is far better and doesn’t heat up like the ivy bridge.
In terms of overclocking, the main difference between the Sandy Bridge and the Ivy Bridge (besides the fact that the latter seem to tolerate slightly lower frequencies), lies in the fact that the 22 nm Intel processors heat up considerably more than their predecessors: about 10°C more in maximal stable overclocking. Overclockers using an air cooling solution will therefore have trouble finding the right balance between frequency increase and longevity.

yes i saw an article about it saying that it’s due to the thermal paste between the die and the processor or the tri-gate 22nm architecture :/
but the gain isn’t better with the core i5-3570k ? than the core i5 2500k ?
