Hello,
I have a Lenovo Thinkpad R400, and for a few days now when I start it, a black screen appears with "Thinkpad to interrupt normal startup, press the blue ThinkVantage button" on it, but when I press the blue button, nothing works. It stays frozen like that. Can someone please help me?
Configuration: Windows XP / Firefox 4.0.1

Thank you Nathan 60, but the problem is that the computer is stuck on the startup message. Windows won't boot and I can't access the BIOS.
Is it stuck even without you pressing the TkinkVantage?
Have you made any mistakes recently that could have damaged Windows?
I already worked on R400 during an internship; I believe that to access the BIOS, it's F2.

Hello,
of course! The PC says "to interrupt normal startup, press the blue ThinkVantage button," which means "To interrupt the normal startup, press the blue ThinkVantage button."
Basically, if you want to start normally, don't press it. This button is designed, as the PC tells you, to interrupt the Windows startup and access the BIOS setup, for example.

My T400 was experiencing the same issue and I found the solution on the link recommended in guenmed's response. I can confirm that this suggestion was very relevant! Thanks to its author, guenmed!

So in case someone still comes across this post, it seems that the problem is caused by a damaged USB port, where pins (gold contacts) end up touching the metal "cartridge." Reshaping them so they don't touch anything resolved the issue in my case, as it did for many others who have testified on the Lenovo forum.
Don't forget to unplug your PC from the power source AND remove the battery before considering any intervention.
Thank you for your solutions.
You’re great.
Indeed, I had a USB port with a broken guide and bent pins touching the ground!!
I fixed the pins (more or less) and disabled this port (with tape), and the PC is back in business!!
Thanks again.
