Hello,

I have an Asus Eee PC 900 HD netbook running Windows XP.
I would like to restore it to factory settings because it is slow.

I tried to start it by pressing F9, but nothing happens; Windows starts up.

I browsed some forums and followed this tutorial: https://www.commentcamarche.net/faq/19681-restaurer-un-netbook-asus-a-son-etat-d-origine#q=restaurer+eeepc+asus&cur=1&url=%2F.
The first step went fine, but for the second one, when I press F9, I get this: "Windows failed to start... Safe Mode with and without networking, etc..."

I forgot to mention that I have no reinstallation CD.

Can you help me?

Thank you.

Hello, since your computer is running XP, it's not certain that it has a recovery partition. To find out, post a screenshot of the disk management on the forum.

    So there are 3:

    - Partition / Primary / Healthy (EFI system partition) 31 MB

    - C: / Partition / Primary / NTFS / Healthy (System) 80.02 GB

    - D: / Partition / Primary / NTFS / Healthy / 69 GB

      Hi

It's normal that nothing is happening; there is no system recovery partition on this hard drive...

So basically, I can't do a "factory" reset?!

In principle, you should have had at least the method to obtain/create this "factory restore" with the PC... But for that, you need to check the manual, right...?

One must still have it in their possession...

If that's all there is, you don't have a recovery partition; to reinstall, you will need a Windows XP CD.

    I'm done for! =/

    Thanks anyway! =)

Just one more question: is there software to "erase" all the data from the PC? Because it's very slow.

To clean up, you can use ccleaner, but I'm not sure it will change much.
Otherwise, here are 2 tutorials to recreate your XP CD, in video and text. If you're not very familiar with it, try to check with someone who knows a bit about it; it doesn't seem too complicated.

    to access "disk management"

    start
    right-click on "computer"
    manage
    disk management

tell me what is written as partition.

    letter and capacity
in fact, a recovery partition is between 5 and 20 GB and has no letter.

    Hello !!

I would also like to restore my computer (I suspect viruses or malicious stuff, despite all the scans I've been able to perform). I followed what you said, can you tell me if I have a recovery partition among those listed below, please? And if it is there, can I restore my computer directly without a USB drive, without a CD (anyway I don’t have a CD port), or anything else?

    - Partition / Basic / Healthy (EFI system partition) 47 MB

    - C: / Partition / Basic / NTFS / Healthy (System) 82.82 GB

    - D: / Partition / Basic / NTFS / Healthy / 61.29 GB

    - PE / Partition / Basic / FAT32 / Healthy (Unknown partition) / 4.88 GB

    Thank you in advance!
