Audio delay between headset and microphone

Hello,

Everything is said in the title...
I bought a microphone and headphones to do recordings. The problem is that I can't read my text because I'm disturbed by the sound delay between my voice through the microphone and the headphone feedback (slight but very problematic for me).
This isn't a software issue since the tests I've just done are without software (just settings on the control panel).
I've made sure everything is at 16 bits 48MHz (channel 1)...

How can I avoid this delay or how can I make sure I'm not disturbed (no answers like "record without headphones," please)?

But if I do that, then I can't hear myself at all... Right?  Because what I want is to hear myself but without echo, without delay between input and output.  Thank you.

More precision:

Equipment:
AKG 120 USB Microphone
AKG K-702 Headphones
ASUS Xonar Essence STX audio device
Technics amplifier (connected to speakers)

Setup:
- The microphone is directly connected via USB to the workstation
- headphones are connected to the amplifier which is connected to the sound card

Hello,  this problem should be stopped by lowering the playback volume of the microphone input in Windows settings.  If it's Vista or W7, you should uncheck "Listen to this device".

Yes, if you don't have another listening system (like a mixing table as input), you won't hear anything.

This delay is due to the latency of the audio card. Check the forums for articles about latency, and you will see if there's a way to eliminate it (or rather reduce it), considering your equipment (audio converter).
It's not certain that you'll be able to eliminate it completely.

I suggested muting the microphone output because in many cases, we can naturally hear ourselves singing, except in noisy environments (like a band...)

For your information, I tested connecting directly to the headphone output of the sound card (and not behind the amplifier) = same issue with delay or latency... Thank you.
