Hello everyone. Here is my problem: I would like to take a screenshot of a DVD, but with the DVD software it doesn’t work. So I use VLC, but as soon as I put my DVD in the reader and start VLC, it won’t launch. How do you configure VLC so it can read DVDs in order to take a screenshot? If kk1 has an even simpler software than VLC that can take screenshots, I’m open to it.
Thanks in advance

Hi
Insert the DVD into the player, open VLC and press the shortcut Cmd + the letter D
select DVD and there you go.
For a screenshot press the shortcut Alt + Cmd + the letter S
See you later-
A small tutorial (valid with VLC (1.0.2)) 1- Ctrl+D to get the "Open Media" screen and choose DVD, or from VLC's Media menu click "Open Disc..." 2- Then start the movie in full screen (double-click on the film) 3- In VLC's "Video" menu click "Screenshot" by default it saves the captures in "My Pictures" If you're not satisfied with the result, an alternative that's a bit less simple but effective: --> press the PrtScn (Print Screen, Imprimé Écran, Impecr, … It depends on your keyboard) key to take the capture at the desired moment. This copies the entire screen to the clipboard (memory). Alt+PrtSc will copy the active window, useful if you're not in full screen and there are several windows open... This command works for anything displayed on the screen, not only for taking a photo of a movie ;-) --> with Gimp (an image editor) open, press simultaneously Ctrl+V or File -> Create from Clipboard This manipulation can be done in several other types of documents open.

I’m quite surprised by the answers I’m getting: basically I’m a big pirate. Well no, don’t be mistaken. I wanted to know how to obtain an image from a DVD for PERSONAL purposes. There I don’t see the problem. Thanks anyway, I’ll switch to a PC, much more lenient!

Hello, to create an image of a DVD you can use CloneDVD, a legal software from Slysoft: http://www.slysoft.com/fr/

We cannot take screenshots of videos. You should be able to read on its box: "All rights of reproduction…"
Not long ago, before the DADVSI law, YadeX allowed extracting passages from protected videos; QuickTime Pro still allows exporting a frame from an unprotected video.
But currently, you are not allowed to help you pirate a passage from a video.
