HP Compaq Presario won't start issue

Hello, I have a problem with an HP Compaq Presario CQ61. It doesn't turn on, there's no boot process, and no fans start. When I plug in the power cord, the light next to the port on the laptop lights up normally when I plug it in, but it turns off after a few seconds. I don't see where the problem could be.
Thank you in advance for all your responses.

Configuration: Windows 7 / Firefox 10.0.2

Hello, when you press the power button on your PC, do your indicator lights (especially the one that shows it's starting up and the one for the battery charger) light up for a second or blink quickly before turning off?

      Hello.
I have the same problem when I turn on my computer, the charging light blinks 3 times before turning off. Could you please tell me what the problem might be?
      Thank you very much.

    Hello,

I have exactly the same issue. The LED next to the power connector lights up for a few seconds, then turns off again.
If the battery is in place, it doesn't even light up.
    Nothing else happens.
The charger has been tested and is operational.
The motherboard shows no visual signs of damage.

I see that the post is marked as resolved, but I can't find any solution in it. What is the situation, please?

Test your charger with a multimeter.

No, it is no longer under warranty, and the old charger was cut on a piece.

As soon as I saw that it was cut, I replaced it.

Okay, take it to a store for a quote, but if it’s the power supply system of the motherboard like I think, it’ll cost you at least 200 euros.

Otherwise, it's your charger that isn't working, I mean, not compatible, but logically you must have taken one identical to the old one. Your PC was working at the beginning with the new charger?

Did he not get shocked, or have water spilled on him?

No, it hasn't been hit, nor has it been exposed to water, and there are no warning lights on. However, I wonder why the indicator light next to the power socket on the computer goes off after a few seconds.

I think it comes from the processor or the RAM.

Is your power supply in good condition? (Is the cable not a little severed?) I had the same issue and it was due to the motherboard power supply that fried, so I couldn’t do anything and had to take my PC to the repair service.

I just changed the power charger; it's brand new.

Ok, what was wrong with the old one? Is your computer still under warranty?

    Hello,
I have the same issue on a colleague's PC.
Knowing that the power supply is fine.
I think there could only be 2 possible causes:
    - The motherboard. Ouch !!!!
    - The power connector. Found it for €13 including tax online.
I disassembled the machine to check and I don't see any physical defects on the connector or the motherboard's soldering.
Has anyone who had this problem tried changing the power connector and could let me know if it resolved the issue or if it really comes from the motherboard?
Thank you in advance for your responses.

    Hello Pat1664,

After a diagnosis by a pro, it was indeed the motherboard for my colleague's Compaq PC.
I subsequently had the same problem with a HP workstation still under warranty.
The HP technician who came tried a BIOS update and, facing failure, replaced the motherboard directly. For him, there was no other possible cause.

I’m sorry to hear this bad news…
