Lost Favorites Icons on Google Chrome Solved

Question

Hello,I'm explaining my situation. A few days ago, I updated Google Chrome to version 17.0.963.56.Everything went well, except that since then, I no longer have the icons for my bookmarks. Now, instead, I see small gray planets displayed.I tried clearing my cache and syncing (I read about these things on another site), but it still doesn't work.Does anyone know how to fix the problem please?Thank you in advance :)Configuration: Mac OS X / Safari 535.11

For the loss of your Chrome shortcut icons, deleting the "favicons" files is often useless, as is reinstalling Chrome. An effective solution, if you have Internet Explorer installed (which is probably the case as it comes pre-installed on almost all computers), is to start Internet Explorer and accept it as the default browser. All your shortcuts will take on the appearance of IE. Then close it and restart Chrome, accepting it as the default browser, and your Chrome shortcut icons will return.

Are you talking about the bookmarks bar?

To reactivate the bookmarks bar, click on the pin icon at the top right of the page and then select "Always show the bookmarks bar."

Hello,

I'm facing the same issue as you jahisdikey and haven't found a solution yet (clearing the cache, removing and adding my bookmarks back, ...), except for uninstalling Chrome and reinstalling it...

It's tedious because it just did the same thing after a bug on my computer and I can't see myself reconfiguring Chrome every few days...

So I'm open to suggestions if you find a solution.

I saw that a similar post had been left on a Google forum but there hasn't been a response yet.

Hello everyone, I just had the same problem and I found a solution!

On Mac:
First, go to: ~/library/Google/chrome/default

Delete the "Thumbnails" file, then restart Chrome.

In my case, the file was strangely missing.
I simply deleted the Google folder, along with the application, and reinstalled it.

I was able to retrieve all my icons/thumbnails!

Hello everyone,
I had the same problem and after multiple struggles and searches, I found the solution.
You need to close Chrome and then delete the "Favicons" file from the correct folder, then relaunch Chrome.
Then all the icons will either reappear or come back one by one after you click on the link again.
