Hello,

my problem is that I formatted my hard drive to give a bit of speed back to my MacBook.

After that, I reinstalled everything and now I want to use iTunes again, but a message pops up

""iTunes requires QuickTime 7.5.5 or later. For information on upgrading your computer, see https://support.apple.com/fr-fr/guide/quicktime-player/welcome/mac""

So I tried downloading previous versions, but nothing works; it never installs on my hard drive because it's not the right version.

Has anyone encountered this problem?

Thanks in advance

I am on Mac OS X 10.5.8.

Configuration: Mac OS X / Safari 533.22.3

Hello,

Hello Dede,

On my iMac G5 running Mac OS 10.5.8, the version of QuickTime in place, the last possible one for this OS, is version 7.7
Available here:

Best regards

Hello,

You must be mistaken or there's a bug because for Mac OS 10.5.8, you definitely need a higher version of QT; I'm on 10.4.11 and my QT version is 7.6.4!!
Have you run the software updates after reinstalling and done a permissions repair?

Unfortunately, I have already reinstalled the entire software following this tutorial and nothing has changed.

Situation:
I just solved exactly the same issue.
Mac OS X 10.5.8, 2.4GHz Intel processor, 2GB of RAM.
I reformatted my computer with the original installation DVDs on my original hard drive by following the indicated steps, and iTunes gives me the same message.
"iTunes requires QuickTime 7.5.5 or later. For more information on upgrading your computer, visit http://www.apple.com/quicktime."
All updates have been made from "Software Update", and there are "no more updates available. (according to the update software).

Explanation:
It's important to know that the update software only checks if the latest versions of software posted by Apple are applicable to our computer:
The latest version of QuickTime pertains to Lion or requires prior updates; therefore, it does not apply to our computer, but that doesn't mean our QuickTime is up to date: by allowing automatic updates, I ended up with QuickTime 7.4.1 (which is far from being the best version on Mac Leopard).

Solution:
On the Apple support site, we can find the older versions:
http://support.apple.com/downloads/#quicktime
To avoid any risk, I won't skip any steps:
1- Download and install QuickTime 7.5.0 for Leopard:
http://support.apple.com/kb/DL52
2- Download and install the update 7.5.5 for Leopard:
http://support.apple.com/kb/DL27

For me, iTunes is working again. The updates are still not at their maximum version, but now that the issue is resolved, we can look for higher versions without any problem. (always check the compatibility with Leopard and the processor). And keep in mind that the automatic update does not reference old updates; with a computer reformat, we must redo the updates "manually".

I hope this will resolve your problem.

Thank you Flexnawel
I followed your advice and I was able to get the iTunes on my G4 to work.

Yes, I have launched all possible updates and nothing works. I cannot launch iTunes because this message keeps appearing over and over.

iTunes requires QuickTime 7.5.5 or later. For more information on upgrading your computer, see https://support.apple.com/fr-fr/guide/quicktime-player/welcome/mac

Have you tried downloading and installing the version that Francis linked above?

Hello,

On this page you have two versions for Leopard (10.5.8) try both but, before, you need to repair the permissions.
You should explain to us, as clearly as possible, how you formatted your new hard drive, from which installation disk, the format chosen, the updates made following the new installation, etc.
So that we can try to grasp the problem and understand it.

I formatted not a new hard drive but the original one using the installation CDs of Mac OS X that came with my MacBook, so I chose to erase all the content when prompted, which reinstalled Mac OS X.
Then I installed all the applications (iPhoto ... 08) provided with the other CD and I launched the updates.

As for the updates completed, I don't know which ones were applied; I need to check.

I don't understand what you mean by "repair permissions??"

To repair permissions
Go to Applications/Utilities/Disk Utility/select the disk (HD) SOS menu/Repair..... just let it run, it can take a while.

And, if your Mac was originally running Leopard (10.5), you should have followed this help:
installing or reinstalling Mac OS X 10.5

Hello,

Try to do the following:
download the combined update for mac OS 10.5.8, even if you are already on that version. Then install it. Next, before launching new updates from the Apple menu, perform a permissions repair. Then, relaunch an update from the Apple menu / software update..., and finally, perform another permissions repair.

Good evening, nothing changes after the installation of the combined update

4 years without any problems with this Mac and now I can't do anything.

Good evening,

In this case, since I can't access this Mac from here, I would say that the solution would be to reinstall everything from scratch after erasing the disk. See here for the procedure:

Hello,

upon rereading the original message:

I therefore tried to download earlier versions but nothing works, it never wants to install on my hard drive because it is not the right version.

Does this mean that after installation the QuickTime version is higher than 7.5.5?

The problem may not necessarily come from QuickTime; it could also stem from iTunes not correctly recognizing the installed version of QuickTime, or not being suitable for the said version of QuickTime, if this iTunes is, for example, a newer generation than the valid original version for 10.5, or conversely if iTunes encounters an unrecognized QuickTime version, even if it’s a version higher than 7.5.5. In short, a non-synchronous update between iTunes and QuickTime, for example. So a few questions ...

when you reinstalled the system:

- did you completely erase the disk or did you do an "Archive and Install"?

- what exactly are the installation disks you used?
in other words, are these disks the ones that came with the Macbook? Or are they universal DVDs? Or other DVDs? Please clearly specify the origin of each of these disks ...

If there is no trace left of the old installation, if installation disks 1 and 2 are the original disks, those that came with the Mac, or if the disks used are universal disks purchased separately, it SHOULD work. There must be a "catch" somewhere...

I deleted everything on my hard drive, so I did not archive or install anything.

Then the installation CDs are the ones that were provided to me with the purchase of my Mac, so I have an installation DVD for Mac OS X and a DVD to install the applications.

It should be noted that when I reinstalled with the DVDs, iTunes worked but it was a 2008 version, so I updated it to get back to the version I was using before the formatting.

I suspect something. You may have downloaded an iTunes version that is not compatible with Mac OS 10.5 and therefore not suitable for your maximum QuickTime version possible on Mac OS 10.5

When you finish an installation of Mac OS 10, regardless of the version, you end with updates by downloading a combined update to save time, or you do it from the Apple menu / Software Update... and then in any case, you always end up with this update from the Apple menu. Even after a downloaded combined update.
BUT, you never download iTunes or QuickTime versions separately to install them afterwards. You need to maintain the consistency of "Mac OS version + installed software".
And this consistency is guaranteed by the software update from the Apple menu.
The Apple site "sees" your configuration and automatically does all the necessary updates. If you bypass this process, by installing for example a software version intended for a higher OS version, you lose the consistency of the whole.
So, I don't know if you have done "manual" updates or not, but if so, the best thing is to start everything over from scratch.
