sound icon blocked Solved

Question

Hello,
I have a little problem with the sound on my PC, the sound icon is stuck on mute!
I click on it to disable it but nothing happens.
I went to the control panel and the same there, I can't click on sound to fix the issue.
What should I do???

Hi!
I think it’s possible to unlock this by uninstalling the sound driver and reinstalling it.
But before uninstalling, it would be better to know if we can reinstall it.
Let me know if you have a CD with your computer that might have the drivers on it.

There is a solution; if you come back, I’ll give it to you because it’s a bit long, and I don't want to write it down for nothing.

Yes, it's almost how it goes. But thanks to XP, you can remove a device driver and revert to the old version if it fails.
The best thing is still to have the right driver that will best manage your sound card.
What you can do already:
Go and take a look at https://www.touslesdrivers.com/index.php?v_page=29

Run the detection, accept the things they ask you (activeX).
You will arrive on a page with the content of your PC.
Identify the sound card, and if any drivers are recommended by the site, download them to your desktop (so you can find them easily).
Sometimes the sound card is integrated into the motherboard, in which case, get a motherboard driver.
I'll get back to you tomorrow for the uninstallation and some simple steps to fix it.

Well, let's get started, do the operations in order:
Right-click on My Computer/properties/hardware/device manager.
In the list, locate the audio controller, click on the small + to the left.
This is where your sound card is (it should have a name). It’s not a codec, it’s not video capture devices, nor legacy audio drivers, nor game port...
Right-click on the sound card then uninstall, then ok.
Restart your PC and check back in the device manager.

If you have a yellow ?, you need to try the first thing: right-click on the ? and properties, driver tab, then revert to the previous version.

If that doesn’t work, check back in the device manager, right-click then update the driver.
The assistant will come up, then choose not for this time then next.
Next, insert the driver CD and let it guide you...
