What is WINVNC used for? Can it be removed? Closed

Question

A friend of mine installed WINVNC on my computer and now he can access it remotely with the IP address just for fun. I would like to counter this
how can I do that, thank you for giving me information quickly.

How is your connection???
- Your friend needs to know your IP... which, generally speaking, changes with each connection!
- WinVNC comes with a password... change it!

Of course, you can also uninstall it.

I wouldn’t call it that at all.

and then, to uninstall/remove this program installed by your "friend," search for it in your "ProgramFiles" on the C: drive – logically, you should find it listed under its name WinVNC or maybe VNC, click on it, delete it. Period.

Besides that: I hope you have installed a firewall on your machine as well as an antivirus?

Re,

- you can change the password, no need for the old one!

- WinVNC / VNC is found in the "Add-Remove Programs" list, so: if you choose to uninstall, do it properly (through this channel)

- Uninstalling VNC will not cause you any trouble regarding Internet access

- VNC can be useful if you need help... the help of a real friend who can take control of your computer! But that's it!

Hello

First of all, I am a girl and the friend in question is a boy. My intention was not to start a conflict but to prevent him from accessing my computer. I'm not looking for a soulmate, just some information.

After uninstalling WINVNC, it didn't stop him from coming back to my place. I'm a bit annoyed by his attitude towards me, but he's playful; it's not meant to harm me, but he's using his skills as an IT technician on my computer. TOO BAD IT FALLS ON ME.

OK.
Click on Start>>Settings>>Control Panel>>Administrative Tools.
In this window, you have plenty of programs running without you knowing it. We call them services. (I'm simplifying)
You should have one towards the end of the list called "VNC Server".
Double-click on it.
In the window that opens, it says somewhere "startup type". Choose the value "disabled".
Click OK and restart your PC.

You shouldn't have any more problems.

If you have a problem or didn't understand something, feel free to ask. Don't touch anything else but "VNC Server".

Hi great,  Flo tells us about an antivirus, a firewall, but the ability to log back onto a remote PC after uninstalling winvnc is puzzling.... a virus doesn't allow this kind of manipulation, a trojan does.. so maybe Flo has an antivirus, but no firewall.... Yes, I agree if he has installed a trojan we need to find it and get rid of it. I think the simplest way is to disconnect and run the antivirus to see, as the computer will be alone and can perform the operation without the friend intervening, so there you go... well, that's what I would do to start, then I would go through an online antivirus site to make sure everything is okay... and then enable the firewall...  great, the poet with his lady...

I don't want to be defeatist, guys, but when it comes to remote access to a PC, it's not just VNC...  In conclusion... maybe we should stop focusing on "VNC Server"...  And if I were you, FLO, I would format my hard drive and reinstall, REMOVING all permissions for others (if in a domain) and specifically for the pseudo_hacker_who_has_nothing_else_to_do, meaning not even the right to log in as a normal user! If this is really true FLO, here’s the course of action:  1- Remove him from your friends list, guys like that aren’t worth anything... it’s called an annoying jerk and a delinquent  2- Install a firewall like ZoneAlarm and configure it to reject all external connections  3- If you have his IP address, file a complaint with his internet service provider (the firewall can give you his IP if he tries to connect)  4- Do a scan with different anti-trojans and antivirus software  5- Give him a good slap :o) .  . \_/
