Disable keyboard shortcuts and others Solved

Hello everyone,  Since this morning I've been on quite a few forums here and elsewhere, and even though I'm starting to get a small idea, I don't have all the answers. In a workbook, I would like to be able to disable a number of things to make the use of the buttons within it mandatory. What would be the point of hiding the menu bar if the keyboard shortcuts remain active? In short, display the workbook with only the title bar and having removed all keyboard shortcuts. The idea is to disable them upon opening the workbook and restore them upon closing in a ThisWorkbook procedure, but for that, I need your help and I would like to know how to: - Disable all keyboard shortcuts. - Disable function keys. - Disable Ctrl, Alt, Shift keys... - Disable the three buttons (minimize, restore, close). - What precautions should be taken to ensure that the Excel configuration (from 2003 to 2010) will be correctly restored, knowing that this workbook will be used by several dozen people on personal PCs. Hello Michel,  Hello Eric,  Thank you for your responses. I know that what I want to do involves risks and that I am indeed not immune to a power outage or an Excel crash. I have been making this workbook available for a year, simply protected by a password, and that hasn't stopped wild modifications that have compromised its usability, and then I have to deal with it. And I’m not even talking about my boss...  Eric: I hadn't considered the restore button, but why not, even if I think it's not really needed because I did the following test: - Excel crashed due to a power outage, and indeed, when I next open Excel (alone), I find Excel as it was at the moment of the crash, with no menu, nothing. - However, if I restart the workbook from the hard drive, my workbook opens, and I can exit it using the "Button" provided for that purpose, and then I find Excel normally upon the next opening. Hello  With....end with constructs a "block". Any method or property inside this block refers to the object; here the application object (elsewhere: range, worksheet, etc)  this way we achieve better readability of the code and a considerable gain in speed  as for the onkey, I included a tutorial in my reply  anyway, you can write any macros you want, holding the shift key combined with the workbook opening request disables the macros  the real problem is mainly a poorly managed relationship issue among colleagues caused by your boss --  Michel

Re,  In other words, it is completely illusory to want to protect a workbook if we assume that there will always be malicious individuals looking to bypass the protections. Under these conditions, we might as well leave our work completely open and inform users that any modifications will result in dismissal for serious misconduct... I am obviously exaggerating, but it raises the question of the usefulness, on Microsoft's part, of implementing protections that do not hold up any better than they currently do. And which shift key is it, the left one, the right one, or the caps lock?

Hello,  I completely agree with Éric and Michel's advice on accountability.  For my part, I never put a password (usually, we forget it when we want to remove it!) on a protected sheet: the protection doesn't come off by itself!!! Everyone has their responsibilities.  In any case, regardless of the protection, there will always be a smart one to remove it! You can never completely secure a workbook. It's better to give the user as much freedom of expression as possible and avoid dictatorship.  By the way, have you thought about sharing the workbook: you would remain in control of accepting or rejecting changes. -- Patrice

Hello,  When a workbook is shared, the change tracking feature allows you to see who did what since the last acceptance of changes. The main advantage of sharing is the ability to work collaboratively on the same file simultaneously. However, it is not mandatory to work online to use sharing: you can declare a workbook as shared and send it to someone. The two shift keys are those with an upward arrow located above each Ctrl key. They both have the same effect. Like the Ctrl keys, they do not work alone; they must be combined with another action (key or mouse).  The key with the padlock is the Caps Lock key. This key causes two states of the keyboard (Normal or Caps Locked). It is never used in combination.  With Excel closed, holding down one of the two shift keys (before and) while double-clicking on a file containing macros prevents those macros from launching.  But to complement Michel's remarks, it is also always possible to raise the macro security level to prevent their execution. -- Patrice

Hello Patrice,  I read your message carefully and I tried some tests, but I'm sorry to say that it doesn't work for me. Why, I have no idea!  I tried with both keys, left and right, one after the other, and double-clicking on an Xls file in my working directory, and my Private Sub Workbook_Open procedure always runs when opening the workbook.  Either there's an issue with my PC or I just don’t understand anything ...  I want to clarify that, in Excel, these keys work perfectly because I can switch from lowercase to uppercase without any problem.  Do you have any idea what my problem might be? Hello Patrice,  Hello Eriiic,  As for me, I'm using Excel 2003 and a security level of "low" on macros. Eric: "You are warned when opening the workbook if there are macros, and you either accept them or not." That's correct, but if you refuse the macros, you refuse them all and the workbook doesn't work without them.  Patrice: How do you digitally sign a macro? What's the VBE? When the certificate confirmation message appears, click OK.  Now it is possible to sign our codes Under Microsoft Excel 2000 and 2003 1 - Open the Excel file containing a macro code. (Upon opening, enable macros, Tools > Macros > Security > "Security Level" tab > check medium level). 2 - Tools/Macro/Visual Basic Editor or Alt+F11. 3 - In the menu bar of the Visual Basic Editor: Tools > Digital Signature > click on choose > then select your signature name and OK. 4 - Save and close the file: upon opening, the macros will automatically activate.
