Disassembling toshiba satellite a60

Hello everyone,
I have some overheating problems with my Toshiba Satellite A60 laptop.
According to what I've read on different forums, it's dust that is clogging up my fan.
As a result, I decided to take it apart and clean it with a can of compressed air, but I don't know how to open a laptop, so if someone has done this on their laptop, could they give me some advice and a little manual? That would be very kind of them.
Thank you all. trielfneo22

Hi, to disassemble the A60 it's not hard, just lift the small cover right above the keyboard, there are two screws underneath, then just remove the keyboard, and unplug the connectors under the keyboard.
After that, turn the laptop over, remove all the screws marked A14, A20, and A8. There's also the F13 screws hidden under the CD drive. After that, it comes apart easily into two parts (the top cover with the screen, and the motherboard with the bottom of the laptop). If you want a bit more help with reassembling --> msn: sylic13@hotmail.com.
I'm looking for a motherboard for a Toshiba A60 (Pentium IV), if anyone has one with everything else broken, I'm interested.

Hi, I'm trying to disassemble my Toshiba Satellite A60 but I can't find the screw to remove the CD drive; that’s the only thing that's stuck.
Thank you in advance for answering my question.

        Hi ninine29,
To dismantle the drive: next to the button to open your drive, you have a small round button that you press and it ejects; pull on it (slowly though!!); now turn your laptop over and on the right you have three holes, the screws are in those "holes" labeled F3... there you go +++

I have an A60 too and I think my motherboard is dead, I believe at least that its battery is dead
according to the birds here, quickly madam, your motherboard is junk and that's it

how did you do it, did you find a motherboard yourself
and if it was just the battery, where is that battery located?

so your trick could help me too

unfortunate companion, I'm waiting for your shout in the night...
if you can inform me quickly because for the moment
I'm running on oil and letter paper...

    Hi
miraculously, the A60 started working again one fine morning. So phew, let's hope it lasts...
maybe it's a humidity issue or fungi or mushrooms that thrive in this humidity...
to be honest, I had cleaned and re-cleaned it well...
I'm sorry, no photos for disassembly, but it's easy; you just need to unscrew all the little screws on the bottom of the monster after removing the battery. Be sure to note each screw according to its hole because some are longer than others, and you could pierce the casing if you make a mistake... There's also a little trick for disassembling the reader if needed; you have to be gentle...
so then, gently remove the casing. Be careful of static electricity when touching the components.
then clean it well and all my wishes that it works again.

    good luck
if by any chance you can't use it and if you're selling it as is, let me know. Thanks

Hi, the simplest is the keyboard.
For that, generally you have 2 elements at the bottom of the screen that you can gently remove.
On other laptops, simply unscrewing one of the bottom plates near the fan is enough. It depends on the PCs.

    Good evening,
ah this overheating issue with the A60 motherboards!!!
I have a Sat A65 (same configuration as the A60 but with a 3.2GHz CPU) and the motherboard is fried (the memory module is damaged)
I'm selling everything else (but it's in Tunis).

I have photos of the disassembly if anyone might be interested.
    Have a good evening.

      Hello everyone,
I came across this forum because I have a Satellite A60 that overheats and shuts down (80 degrees).
I disassembled it, cleaned out the dust, replaced the thermal paste on the processor, and reassembled it.
      Result: 60 degrees!
I took it apart again and noticed that the small fan doesn't spin. Motherboard power supply issue.
Solution: I bridged the wires on the large fan and it's all good, max 50 degrees.
There you go, I hope this can help others.

    I have a Toshiba Satellite A60 with a CPU: Mobile Intel® Celeron® D processor 335
Does the motherboard support a CPU: Intel Mobile Pentium 4 538 / 3.2 GHz?

      Of course not! You can't...

As for me, I'm currently repairing an A60-743 that is suffering from the two most common symptoms for this model of machine.
The first (and this is the case for many laptops) is that it overheats. What you need to do is take it apart to dust it out and clean all the fans, and to apply new thermal paste for the CPU (be careful, it's a delicate operation).
The second is that the DVD reader/writer is dead. It's not easy to find spare parts... but I found this place: L'atelier du portable. All you need to do is go to their site (Google search) and write to them.

I'm considering doing a blog tutorial when I do the disassembly with photos...
      To be continued...

      Hello to you
concerning the A60 HS motherboard, do you have the possibility to provide me with the references of the components (regulator) on the back of the motherboard, under the copper heatsink, at the 19V connector.
The identification on the printed circuit board is Q510 AND Q504
      Thank you in advance.

Hello _ I’m checking this post a bit late, if you haven’t resolved your issue, here’s the information: under the copper cooler, there are 8 circuits aligned in the same direction, which are (N MOSFETs) F8113; next to them, there are 2 that are (P MOSFETs) 6679 _ This concerns a motherboard marked: PCB-TC7778-MB-41A-VER1.0 6050A0059801-MB-A04 _ Be careful to properly re-solder the cooler which must be in good contact with these components and apply thermal paste again. My issue with my board is that it doesn’t want to recognize the hard drive even though it’s new _ the reinstallation DVD boots fine but the procedure fails _ Is there a possibility to update the BIOS with the file saved on a bootable CD? Normally, the update is done from Windows. Best regards.

Hello, I have a Toshiba A60, P4 3GHz and my installation CD has been scratched and unusable for a year. I've taken the drivers from Toshiba, but I no longer have battery management or backlight control. The ones downloaded from Toshiba don't work. If someone has the drivers from the original CD, it would be nice if they could copy them for me. :(

    Thanks again.

    Hi

    I did it, but it's a miracle...

For the cleaning, there's no need; you have to dismantle the covers underneath and shake the compressor, then also on the fan (you can stop it from spinning) and also on the grid of the cooler at the back.

However, for the disassembly, you need to remove all the screws underneath, then take out the hard drive and the DVD drive (trays)
then remove the last three screws through the DVD housing

Then be careful because there are cables to disconnect, and the hardest part is reconnecting them (it took me 2 hours with dentist tools!)
You should start with the longest ones, then the shorter ones, and the last one from the back just by lifting it and using a small sharp tool like a dentist's pick

I had to do this because the power supply was shot + the back socket too (otherwise, straight to the trash) I soldered the cable directly to the socket and drilled the case to get the cable out

    Surgery work!

Good luck, and no unnecessary disassembly, believe me

    bye bye

    Hello / Good evening

I have a problem with my Toshiba SA60, my RAM is giving me a 4 error so it’s dead. I looked at the pictures to take it apart and I disassembled it, but I can't find the RAM on the laptop. Can someone tell me where it is?

I'm not talking about the RAM that can be added through the compartment but the other one.

    Hi

    I just saw your message
I asked myself the same question about the memory and actually there isn't any, the original RAM is soldered onto the system so it's not removable

You can put a "512 MB PC2700 DDR SODIMM (333 MHz) Memory Extension" in the slot
( check in "pan config, system or with the "Everest" software
    )

maximum speed is 333 MHz 512 MB around 14€ on Cdiscount or Rue du Commerce

May need to reformat for issues with original RAM memory first

    Bye

    Hello.

Thank you for your reply. I already have the RAM, and I can install it in the PC through the access panel, but the problem is that with the one that's in the system, it causes everything to bug, and I can't reinstall Windows. Is there any way to disable the system memory?

For sale Toshiba Satellite model A60-692 in Brittany.

    Processor: Intel Pentium IV
    Cpu: 2.8 Ghz (2800 MHz)
    Ram Memory: 256 Mo Sdram
    Hdd: 60 Go
    Screen: 15.4" TFT
    Weight: 3 Kg

    Price: 200€

For parts, as it works, but the processor fan runs at an incredible speed, causing it to rub against the casing and make a loud noise, resulting in 3 broken blades on the fan.
Power supply modified at the pc connection point, so it's directly soldered via molex connector, which means the power supply is always detachable from the pc if you want to use it in battery mode.

    Contact me if you're interested!
