Lock instead of sleep

Hello,

For a few days now, my PC locks (returns to the login screen) when I press the sleep button.
I have tested all the sleep buttons (directly on the PC, remote control, keyboard shortcut, and the one in the start menu), and the result is always the same: the computer locks.

I use sleep mode a lot (for example, at night, and it saves me from having to save all my ongoing work and tabs, then relaunch them the next day). So this problem is quite troublesome.

I had lost internet (a bit of delay in bills) and since it was restored, this has been happening.

I searched but couldn't find anyone with the same problem as mine.

Thank you in advance,
Bart.

Configuration: Windows Vista / Firefox 6.0

Go to Control Panel / Power Options. Check that when you click on Sleep, it actually goes to Sleep. It may not be clear, but when you're in front of it, it will become so!

In "Choose the power button action," everything is also correct.
(Sleep >> Sleep and Shut down >> Shut down)

Uh... I'm a bit lost right now ^^

I've heard about the famous BIOS, which tends to come up often, but I really don't know how to access it, what to do, etc...

Can you explain it to me in a bit more detail, please?

Sorry, I thought UP :) meant updated! To update the BIOS, you need to find a recent driver for your BIOS on Google. For that, you type the model of your computer and add BIOS driver. There, the magic of Google does its job! If you can't find it, write your PC model and I'll find it for you.

It's an HP. The OS is Vista Home Premium SP2.
When we just type "m9680fr" on Google, it brings up the right PC.

      Hello,

The problem is not that the computer is not coming out of sleep mode, but that it doesn't even enter it. It locks (returns to the login screen) instead of going to sleep.

So there are no energy savings, the PC keeps running, etc... So I have to turn it off.

I was familiar with this solution which has helped me in the past (the PC waking up in the middle of the night, due to the network card allowing it to wake for some update ^^)

      Thanks anyway :)
      Bart.
