Minecraft: how to activate god mode?

Hello,
I created a Minecraft server with Bukkit.
I have the Essentials plugin, but whenever I use the /godmod command, it doesn't work...
What should I do?

      I recently got the magic spells plugin that I deleted, and I couldn't use the /god mode
      it says "god mode activated" but nothing happens... :(
