Hello,
my SONY VAIO suddenly stopped working (one month after the warranty expired)
I sent it for inspection to the SONY VAIO center, which gave me a repair estimate of 750 euros!!!! for the motherboard replacement (on a PC that already cost 2500 euros)
Is there any other, less expensive way than going through SONY to change this motherboard??
Thank you in advance

Hello
the solution is on this site: http://www.jcd-comm.fr/new/
they sell Sony motherboards at half price and have a very good reputation as a company.
For your information, I ordered a motherboard for a Sony Vaio VGN-S1HP (worth 1800 euros)
Sony quoted me 802.33 euros on their estimate and I bought this motherboard for 360.00 excluding VAT
Who can beat that?

Hi fifi ..
your motherboard is worth an eye ..
around 500 € without labor of course lol ..
for 100 to 200€ more you could get a new PC with a one-year warranty, but it won't be a 12-inch ..
try something: remove the battery and power supply ---- hold the power button for 30 seconds ...
put the power supply and battery back and try ...
2nd solution hihihi ......
if you've disassembled it, you must have seen that there was a BIOS backup battery, remove this battery and short-circuit the two pins on the motherboard ...... of course without power supply and without battery ....
with a bit of luck your motherboard has crashed ...
this generally happens when you're out of battery and it shuts off..so try the first solution first, that could work .. otherwise, well, you have the second option and then the prayer lol ...
good luck

Hello,
I had the same problem as you, with the same response from the Sony center, as well as from "Chinese" repairmen in Paris.
While searching online, I found some English companies that take apart the computer and only repair what needs to be fixed.
I sent it there, and they diagnosed a problem with a component of the graphics card: the whole thing cost me £136.85, plus shipping fees by colissimo (around £50), which is considerably less than what I was quoted in France.
The computer returned last week and everything works perfectly.
The address of this miracle company is:

Just so you know.

Hello everyone,
I have a Vaio VGN-TX2HP (the tiny one), my motherboard seems to be dead. Apparently Sony is asking for outrageous amounts to repair it. Does anyone know where I could get a motherboard???
Thank you for your help.

Guys, I think I'm in the same mess as you. I also have a Sony Vaio VGN-TX2HP/W and it hasn't worked for 6 months because of the motherboard. I don't know what to do; I’ve asked for a ton of quotes from Sony, always the same prices, and from a lot of small businesses, it’s always the same price. It drives me crazy that you can buy a computer for such a high amount, it's really an amazing computer, but you can't fix it. The repair costs as much as any other brand. So I joined the forum in the hope of finding someone who could help me find one cheaply, even if it's secondhand, that's not a problem. I just have an expensive computer that’s useless to me.
Hey dude,
I have a friend who went to China on Friday for 3 weeks. I gave her my Vaio to get it repaired there. I also asked her to bring back some motherboards for this model. I’ll keep you updated in 3 weeks.

Hi everyone..
It's not just about finding a cheap motherboard..
First, you have to install it..
And second, you need to tattoo the BIOS, otherwise there won't be any recognition of recovery CDs. So no recovery in case of a crash...
The flash for the Sony BIOS that takes both the flash and the tattoo isn't found on the internet..
You can only find that in repair centers (you need to be Sony-certified)...
Just wanted to give you a little taste of what's involved...

help +++ I need a BIOS CD for the Sony Vaio VGN FZ 11 S FR without going through Sony's customer service, which has already given me an estimate of 237 euros for travel and diagnostics of the PC. Someone thinks that flashing the BIOS would be enough to restore the PC to working order, but they need this CD that Sony won't provide.
What can I do ????

I’m discovering these posts a bit late, but if anyone is interested, I have spare parts for the Vaio VGC-M1, apart from the graphics card and the drive. Just so you know, 500 euros for a motherboard is outrageous!
Hello, I still have the keyboard for the VGC-M1. I believe that 50 euros is a reasonable price given the rarity of spare parts for this computer, which are almost impossible to find.
If you are interested, I will inquire about the shipping costs as I have no idea what it might be, but in any case, the total will not exceed 60 euros.
Best regards.

Hello
For all Sony users
In case of a breakdown, don't bother knocking on Sony's customer service door, they are incompetent and thieves
They systematically change the motherboard and you'll end up paying 800 euros... Tell them to fuck off and I will give you some good addresses.

Joe lives in New York and will only repair the defective part, by desoldering and soldering components on the motherboard.
Shipping your PC is done via UPS (secure) at your expense
Don't hesitate to contact him by email
And for those who speak English, there are also Sony Vaio repairers in London, apparently it's a common issue with our famous little gems...

Hello
I have the same problem with my Vaio VGN-NR21E, the motherboard is messed up after 9 months of use and I can't find how to get the references for this motherboard, I'm also looking for the price. Replacing it is not an issue, I'm an IT professional and it doesn't seem complicated.
I know that Sony usually uses Intel motherboards, but the reference is impossible to find.
Thank you

Hello,
I just received the quote from Sony for my TX2HP: 530 € for the motherboard! The problem was as follows: as soon as I moved the laptop or tried to adjust the screen, it would shut off. I thought it was a loose connection or a poorly connected cable that could be easily repaired. Sony's verdict: motherboard is dead! Given all your messages, I also think it's a bit of a scam. I've already assembled a desktop computer and I would like to try changing the motherboard myself, what do you think? Furthermore, I very regularly travel to Asia (China, Singapore, Hong Kong) where you can find computer components for not much compared to the monstrous margins made by all the manufacturers (who don’t actually make much anyway but sell us their junk for a fortune just because they slapped their name on it!) and I find it outrageous. This is legal and organized fraud.
Thank you for your replies.
