Hello, I downloaded Windows 95 via win3x in order to install it on my PC using VirtualBox.
I received the Windows 95 folder with all the installation files inside.
However, I don't know how to install it with VirtualBox.
I tried burning it to a CD to launch the installation from the CD but it doesn't work.
So I thought that using an ISO image of Win95 would work.
But I don't know how to do that. Which software should I use? Which file from the Win95 folder should I use?
Thank you in advance.
Configuration: Windows 7 / Firefox 3.6.13

in VirtualBox, Devices/CD Drive/Capture ISO Image
if this version of Win95 is bootable, which is rare, it should start
bootable CDs really only begin with Win98SE
otherwise, you need to download the "iso" images of the Win95 startup disk and do "capture disk image"; MS-DOS will create a mini OS in memory and from there you install Win95 after formatting the virtual hard drive in FAT
installing Win95:

the installation in VirtualBox is done the same way as in "real" -
what's the point of having windows 95?

it's not false dan.moon

I installed it to be able to play a game that doesn't work with the 64-bit mode and that is made for Windows 95 and 98.

might as well get 98 then! it will be easier to install!

Thank you for the advice. Actually, I found some ISO images that I downloaded. I followed everything that was mentioned on Polo's site,
I created the 2 partitions and formatted them.
The only small problem is that during the installation, when it says to type install.exe, it doesn't work. When I type that, it says bad command..
Do you know why that might be? -
Did you download an image of the boot disk/CD for Win95 or 98?
http://poloastucien.free.fr/cd_de_boot.html
Or if you downloaded the files from the disk, did you create an ISO using WinImage or PowerIso?
Why two partitions?
You need to create a virtual hard drive and format it with the ISO of the Win98 boot DOS disk/CD
This gives you a:/format C:
Then type d (letter of the virtual drive) after releasing the ISO of the disk and capturing the ISO of the Win95 CD. -
I have downloaded it, yes.
I downloaded the ISO images of the 95 and 98 CDs.
Just a question... in the link you gave me, Polo mentioned that we need to burn the ISOs onto a DVD or CD. Is that necessary? Or is it enough to specify the location of the ISO image in VirtualBox?
Two partitions because I simply followed what Polo wrote in his guide.
I have a new problem, after a few seconds when I enter MS-DOS, the screen shows lots of small black and white squares...
So I wanted to install XP in the same way with an ISO image to see where the problem lies... and it tells me that it cannot find the XP CD in the drive.
Yet the XP ISO image is fine, I don't understand...
I think I'm cursed!-

Hello,
However, in the preferences of Virtual PC, you need to make an adjustment in the CD ROM and enable booting.
So you need to check: Allow boot from CD and check standard IDE configuration.
And restart Virtual PC.
With a VPC 4.02, press the Windows key and in the control menus, restart.
Version 6 is just a more advanced version of the other versions.
It should be the same.
If you do not check the bootable floppy disk option in the preferences and do not restart for the PC to take the modification into account, you will never be able to boot W 95 if you need it on your PC.

The tutorial by Polo is not about VirtualBox; it simply explains the installation procedure for Windows 95.
In VBox, you just need to provide the location of the disk images and CD (no need to burn them).
I wonder if you have the necessary ISOs; the first one is an ISO of the boot disk (which is hard to find and is often replaced by a boot CD, the link to which I provided in my post on January 19), and the second is the ISO of the Windows 95 CD.
You must capture the ISO of the "diskette"; you will find yourself in DOS, then you will format it in FAT, after that you release this image and capture the image of the Windows 95 CD.
