How to turn your PC into an alarm clock?

Hello everyone

Having gone through all the posts, I realize that some people couldn't care less about the topic's request: How to wake up to music using your computer... you can say what you want, but everyone has the right to do what they want with their pc, and if a little tweak can help avoid buying an alarm clock, why not ^^ and it’s definitely nicer to be woken up by music you love rather than by a buzzer or the crap that comes on the radio...

One solution I settled on is to use winamp. It's been explained time and time again, but I'll still go over the topic briefly to explain the procedure clearly. This method only works if the computer is turned on. The options are different if the computer is off or in sleep mode.

1: You must already have winamp ^^

2: Start => Programs => Accessories => System Tools => Scheduled Tasks.

3: Here, double-click on "Create a Scheduled Task" and then click "Next". Select Winamp from the list that appears (Bizarrely, on my machine, winamp doesn't appear in the list. If that's the case for you too, just click "Browse" and find the path where you installed Winamp =>"Next". Then select the frequency you want => "Next". Select the desired time => "Next". I didn't touch the username or password since I'm the only one using my pc and I don't have a password, but otherwise, fill in the options as you wish. => "Next" then "Finish".

4: Now double-click on the new task you just created. In the "Task" tab, add "winamp.m3u" to the "Execute" line. You now have something that looks like this: C:\Programs\Winamp\winamp.exe "winamp.m3u". Don't forget the space between Exe and "winamp.m3u"; otherwise it won't work. Check the box "Run only if a session is open." In the "Schedule" tab, you can change the frequency and execution time again. Nothing to touch in the "Settings" tab except perhaps the option "Wake the computer to execute this task" if the computer is in sleep mode (I can't say, I haven't tested it).

At this point, winamp will open when you want it to at the time you wish.

5: Let's set up winamp now. There's not much tweaking to do, but it's necessary if you want it to work. Launch Winamp. Options => Preferences. In the left list, scroll down to the "Live Title" option and then go to the "Sequencer" tab, at the very bottom check the box "Load the list in the sequencer at winamp startup" and put the link to your playlist you created.

Now your computer is an alarm clock :D
Winamp will launch and automatically load the playlist.

Not feasible since it's technically impossible. If your PC is off, no software can run; it's a logic that leaves one dumbfounded.

Leaving it in sleep mode all the time is foolish; a PC needs to cool down.

In short, you can short-circuit the power button, plug everything into a cheap timer, and (this is where you need to be married) ask your wife to log in at the scheduled time.

To answer the question, there are not 36 solutions:
- if the PC's BIOS allows it, schedule the machine to start at the specified time with the playback of a playlist.
- leave the PC on standby with the task scheduler set to launch the mp3 at the desired time...

I found out how to set an alarm on your computer; you just need to download alarm clock:

My solution to the problem is super simple:
- You create a .wpl file with Windows Media (playlist) containing your (or your) mp3.
- You disable password recognition to quickly create a scheduled task: start > run > regedit and in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\lsa you look for
limitblankpassworduse and change 1 to 0.
- Finally, you create the scheduled task with Windows, targeting the .wpl file.

And there you go, it's all set. No need to install anything (like Winamp or other nonsense).

The internal clock is operational even when the PC is unplugged, thanks to a button cell battery. I thought there was a way to turn on a PC at a specific time, but apparently not...

Well, I see I'm not the only one who struggles to wake up.

Here's what I do: I set my alarm for 7:30 AM.

I also have 2 cell phones; I set one for 7:35 AM and the other allows me to create as many alarms as I want. I just create 3 alarms at 7:40 AM, 7:45 AM, and 7:50 AM. And then I have my HiFi system that I set either to 7:55 AM or 8:00 AM; I won't even mention the volume I put it on.

And despite all that, I turn off this arsenal of alarms and fall asleep. It's tough to wake up.

Hello, I lost my phone yesterday and tomorrow, I have classes starting at 8:00 AM, so I need to get up, which is why I needed my computer to act as an alarm. The solutions suggested here didn't work (on Windows 8, the alarm doesn't come out of hybrid sleep), so I decided to try a very simple software that seems to work. However, it's a trial version that only works for a month.

So, to get it working, download it, it's easy, it's called free alarm clock. Once installed, launch it and double-click on the suggested alarm. Various options will appear, you need to check "Wake computer from sleep mode." You can also fiddle with everything and load one of your songs.

For the next steps, I specify that I have a laptop, but I think the following options are also available on desktops. You need to go to "other power options/Change plan settings/Change advanced power settings." There, click on "sleep/allow hybrid sleep." Enable it.
