Hello,
I have a problem saving a video generated by a JVC camcorder (.MOD and .MEP). I need to upload it to a Zwook site that only accepts .swf format (Flash animation). Does anyone know how to do this? Is there an application that can help me accomplish this miracle? I've searched everywhere and can't find anything!!!

I just read in a magazine (l'ordinateur individuel) that all you need to do is rename the file with a .mpg extension and you'll end up with a more common file format!
Explanation: the JVC camcorder actually records in mpeg2 format, so there's no need for complex conversion.

  Quicktime does not read multiplexed formats (audio + video track) like this, it needs a component that can be found at Apple (http://www.apple.com/quicktime/mpeg2/). VLC or MPlayer can read this mpeg2. ffmpegx and vlc allow them to be transcoded.
  Perhaps there are free codecs, but I do not know any.

  So I followed the advice found in this post to read it: I rename them to .mpg and it's working great.
  
  However, I'm having trouble doing edits. I downloaded VirtualDub-MPEG2_1.6.11_b23787_+_aide_En.exe
  
  I can open my file, but there's an audio issue: "No audio decompressor could be found to decompress the source audio format.
  (source format tag: 2000)"
  
  According to Manu, the video is a multiplexed format (sound + video track).
  
  Does anyone know of an easy-to-use editing software that could allow me to edit this type of format??
  Phil2fer, have you made any progress on this issue since you've had your camcorder for several months?

  I also tried renaming the file to .mpg and .mpeg, but the image and sound become choppy.
  Could it be because my video was filmed in 16:9 and that Windows Media Player, for example, doesn't play 16:9??

Of course, I tried with iMovie HD, QuickTime, PresentMovie, RealPlayer, VLC, Windows Media Player... the only application that can read it is Capty MPEG Edit EX for Everio which unfortunately only saves it in .Mod or .MEP formats. That’s my problem... What else can I try?

Otherwise, I found the solution to my problem: I was missing some codecs. So you need to download this (right-click on the .inf file and select "Install")

http://fcchandler.home.comcast.net/AC3ACM/AC3ACM.zip

then reload the video in VdubMPEG. It worked for me.

The simplest thing I've found is .....to change the extension from .MOD to .MPEG!!!

It seems to be the same thing!!!

I followed your instructions, I downloaded VLC and I can play my videos, but the sound is gone.
I understood that it might be a codec issue, but I'm a novice and I don't know what to do about it!!?

To read a .MOD video on a Mac, you need to change the .mod to .mpg and then open that file in Toast Titanium.
Through Toast, you can export it as a QuickTime Movie (.mov) and there you go...

Hello,
I just bought a JVC Everio camcorder and thanks to your advice, I was able to play the videos with VLC by renaming them to .mpeg. But what is the best way to proceed now for video editing with iMovie: should I convert them to DV? How can I do that? Or is there another conversion method? Thank you in advance for your help.

Yes, it was mentioned earlier in the discussion, but it refuses to show, so a conversion is still needed along with the correct codec.

  For my part, I just bought an Everio camcorder, everything goes well if I just want to play the video, but when I transfer the video file to editing software, I have no sound at all.
  
  I changed the extensions and everything... and nothing!!! Personally, it's quite annoying because I bought it to make a report within my association, and at the moment it’s of no use to me.

The .MOD file can be opened anyway... anyway... I've read around about people having this problem and I SOLVED IT, it took me a while but in the end, those who are tough win!!! I don't think it needs to be highlighted; those who need it will read it!!!
So, for those who still have this problem, read here the procedure (also stupid for the most part)!!! So:

Along with the camera drives, there are some software among which is "PowerDirector Express" that can also be opened from "PowerCinema NE for Everio," which opens automatically as soon as you connect the camera!!! So, as soon as PowerCinema NE for Everio opens, you can go to copy/edit, select the videos, and then click on advanced edit to enter PowerDirector Express, or simply enter directly from the PowerDirector Express icon!!! Once imported into the program and placed in the timeline, the "produce" button at the top will be enabled, and clicking it will give the possibility to convert into a myriad of formats, update speed, resolution… possible!!! I find it convenient Avi/type 2/dv-avi/ and high quality for DVD files for "PAL" TV (normally it's 720x576)!!!
Once the file is created, you can open it with video editors like one of my favorites from the "STUDIO" series!!! And voilà!!! The game is done!!! I assure you that I spent a lot of time, at least trying the various types of formats, frame rates… etc… also because for the various formats, there can be options like type 1 and type 2….. I still haven't understood what the difference is!!!! Well… anyway, with 2 the procedure works, and with 1 it doesn't!!!
Anyway… to wrap it all up… a movie of 1 hour and 38 minutes ~, which originally was 5.2Gb ~. converted, it reached 18GB, well then passing it with the various codecs to transform it into .VOB for DVDs it will go back to around 4.7Gb bye everyone, and thanks anyway for your responses!!!

Hello!!!!! And thank you for these super helpful tips!! I just got back from vacation, and I filmed a lot with my JVC, and the blogs or hosts that don't allow me to post them there, I also had to convert them. THANK YOU!

Just so you know, Windows Media Player 10 plays my videos perfectly! And VLC probably does too... :-o

Hello everyone

I own a Sony DCR SR 72E camcorder and when I transfer my videos to my PC running XP, I can play them with VLC but not with Windows Media Player
There is a .mpg file and a .modd file
but I can't insert them into video editing software
The video format is MPEG 2
