Vertical lines on my Mac

Solved

Hello,

I have an iMac G5 Intel Core 2 Duo, and for a little over a month now, a 6 cm wide band has been running across my screen from top to bottom. At first, the lines were multicolored but now the band is completely black. When it started, it only happened on the screensaver but now it’s all the time. And now on my screensaver, the whole screen is starting to change colors, moving strangely... So I think I won’t be able to see anything soon.

The problem is that it’s obviously out of warranty, and I don’t think there’s any contractual warranty, plus I don't even have the receipt! I actually bought it at an auction and I don't know how "old" it is. I have had it for about 6 months.

I've already read on forums that this has happened to a lot of people and that Apple has been sued for this recurring issue on this model of Mac.

So I would like to know exactly what steps to take in my case if someone knows.
Thanks in advance. :)

Hello,

An "iMac G5 Intel Core 2 Duo" does not exist.

A G5 is the type of processor. And G5 is a PowerPC type processor, manufactured by IBM or Motorola.
Whereas an Intel Core 2 Duo, as its name indicates, is an Intel processor.

If you go to the Apple menu / About This Mac / More Info.. you will find all the information related to this Mac, including its serial number in the "Hardware" section.

What you can also do is enter the serial number of this Mac in the appropriate box on the Apple support page. And you will have all the info.
The serial number can also be found under the foot of the Mac itself.

The page where you can enter this serial number:
https://support.apple.com/fr_FR/specs
There you will know everything about this Mac, including its model year.

Now, regarding your specific issue. It is true that there have been series of Macs that posed this type of problem. Apple turned a blind eye at the beginning of the first cases. Then court decisions in various countries forced Apple to acknowledge the problem. Subsequently, Apple accepted to cover the repair costs for the affected Macs. This was part of a coverage program for specific models and for a specific duration beyond the legal warranty.

I do not know to what extent your Mac is affected. So the best thing to do is to go to an authorized service center with all the information regarding this Mac; no need for invoices, but precise information about the serial number, exact model, and its age. They will tell you what is going on.

Good luck
