Hello to you who are much more knowledgeable than I am in computers, and there are many of you!
I bought a camera and I can't get it installed. Normally, my computer should recognize it automatically, but it tells me to insert the installation CD.
I do that, but then the computer says it couldn't find the installation driver.
Recently I had the same problem with an MP3 player. Impossible to install it. After trying it on another computer, this MP3 player is not defective.
I have (and I think I still have) a Trojan horse named win 32, could this be related?
Thank you in advance for your help.

Hi,
to you who are much more knowledgeable than me in computing Thanks for the compliment, but I'm not so sure!
I had (and I think I still have) a Trojan called win32, That's why it's recommended to periodically run antivirus and antispyware scans.
For your issue, manually search for your device's drivers on the CD, you'll find them and I hope you know the procedure. But I'll describe it briefly anyway:
When Windows asks you to search for drivers automatically, choose the other option (manual), then you "browse" the CD and you'll find it. If that's not the case, it means they are linked to an application you need to install from the CD provided by the manufacturer.
See you tomorrow.

Hi,
If your device is still not recognized, you can force its installation through the Control Panel -> Add Hardware
Also check if the plug-and-play service is set to automatic
-> Administrative Tools -> Services
http://www.microsoft.com/france/technet/securite/secmod54.mspx
As for win32, don't kill it: apparently, it's your computer!

Hello Géraldine,
If you want to clean your machine, there are two free software options, Ad-Aware and Spybot, that eliminate spyware, trojans, and other crap... Just go on Google and type in ad aware or spybot and the (reliable) download address will appear. Furthermore, do your other peripherals work? Printer, scanner, etc.?

Hello,
A little tip that has often worked and I don't know why or how, is if you have two optical drives (CD and/or DVD or even a burner) to put the driver CD of the device in one drive and the Windows CD in the other and ask Windows to search for drivers automatically.
See you later!

Hello Géraldine,
It seems that your issue is not resolved. I didn't quite understand how you tried to install the camera. There are two ways to do it: either go through "add hardware" or use the installation CD from the device manufacturer. If it doesn't start automatically, you can force it by going to "My Computer" and clicking on the CD drive. Good luck!

Hey guys
I've tried both methods to install the device.
The CD starts automatically and I install what they call the USB manager. Then, I continue as it says in the device manual and connect it to the computer using the USB cable.
At that moment, the computer says it has detected new hardware and asks me if I want to install it.
I answer yes and I have 2 options: either continue the automatic installation (letting the computer find the driver in its files or online: that doesn't work!) or insert the installation CD (that doesn't work either)
For your information: I have Windows XP Home, pack 2 (with automatic updates via Windows Update) and my CD drive works perfectly.

In fact, I have the impression that there are no drivers installed on my computer anymore.
If I go to "printers and faxes" in the "control panel," there's nothing!!
If I go to "scanners and cameras," I click on "add an imaging device" and the computer asks me to select the brand of the device, but there is no menu to select the brand.
That's where my problem lies!!
