Good evening,
I have an HP ProBook 4515s laptop running Windows Vista Home Basic. I would like to perform a complete reset of the machine. A reinstallation CD was provided with my purchase. How should I proceed to start the reset? Thank you in advance.

Sincerely, Corentin.

It worked! I don't know how I managed it, but I succeeded! I really thank you for the help you provided. However, the restoration is quite long; is that normal? It's been since 1 PM that the computer has been resetting... Anyway, the DVD worked well, that's the most important thing. Thank you very much! Best regards!

    Sincerely, Corentin.

Hi Corentin. You said the PC has been restoring since 1 PM? And it's still restoring now?
      I think that's pretty huge.

Yes, it always restores. I must admit that I'm also quite surprised that the reset is taking so much time. I have done one before this (on the same computer, using the same process) and it took much less time (about 1 hour, no more)... I don't know if it's because I've installed another OS than the original one. However, I still had 104GB free out of 149.

Yes, generally 1 hour is the average. But since 1 PM, it’s been a lot.
Do you have a bar that indicates the progress of the restoration process? Is it moving forward or is it stuck?

Well, it's a continuous bar. There is no progress; it fills up continuously several times. It's worrisome, isn't it?

PS: But I want to point out that the last time I did a reset on this computer, it did the same thing.

Yes, it's a bit long for my taste. :(
Is your DVD clean? No scratches?

Thank you, your link leads to exactly the guide I needed. But a problem occurs. I am following all their instructions to the letter. I insert the restoration DVD into the computer and then restart it. As soon as the HP Invent screen appears, I press the F9 key. Thus, the menu illustrated in their guide is displayed. However, there is no CD/DVD option. This is quite worrying. What should I do?

      Sincerely, Corentin.

PS: And, I specify aside, I mentioned that the machine was running Windows Vista Home Basic? Yes, it originally was, that is to say, before I installed Windows Seven on top of it. I don't know if this information can help you, but I point it out nonetheless.

      Hello.

So in fact, if the "Cd/Dvd rom" option does not appear in the boot menu, it is probably because it is disabled in the BIOS.
So you need to go to "Enter setup" and enable your cd dvd rom drive.

In principle, this should be located on the "Boot configuration" page or something similar.
      See this link.
Save using the F10 key before exiting the BIOS, then restart the boot menu via F9 and your burner should appear in the list.

(for your "P.S.": this should not pose any problems if you have a recovery DVD)

Note that you should also be able to launch the recovery using your hidden partition (F11 key),
but if the partition was deleted during the Windows 7 installation, you can only do it from your DVD.

      Hello,
I followed your instructions and those of their guide via your link. So, as they told me, I changed the order of the peripherals by putting CD/DVD first. I re-executed the manipulation to return to the boot menu, but there I still don't see a CD/DVD. I'm really starting to despair. Any other ideas?

      Best regards, Corentin.

      Oh, that's surprising.

Have you seen your CD/DVD drive in the BIOS?
And are you sure it's properly enabled in the boot devices, because if your BIOS is well configured, this drive "must" appear in the (F9) menu.

I would add that the purpose of modifying the BIOS is not necessarily to set the CD/DVD drive first, but mainly to ensure that it is properly enabled.
Then when you press F9, you will select which device to "boot" from, and it doesn't matter if the hard drive is first or your CD/DVD drive; the one you select will start.
