I am looking for a simple solution to convert an audio file (hold music) to *.wav in CCITT Law A format.
Thank you for your recommendations.

To convert an audio file, you can use the excellent CDEX but after, "citt loi A" I don't know.

Thank you, Frédéric, for your information. I am following the approach suggested by Barnabe 0057.
      Have a great weekend!

I don't know if you still need information, but the Windows media player converts files very well, it just needs to be in wave format.

Thank you for your message, it's fine with the Windows magneto as Barnabé had recommended last June, just one condition: it has to be under XP, not possible under Vista.
For your information, I've adopted the AVS Audio Converter 6, it's great and simple with all the possible settings.

An unconditional fan of FormatFactory, I was surprised to discover that it does not support conversion to CCITT A-Law.
SOX, on the other hand, open source for Linux or Windows, is perfect!

    Hello,
To convert your file to the desired format (wav to ccitt law A), you can use the Windows Sound Recorder.

      Hello,
Thank you for your response; using the Windows magneto, I can't retrieve the MP3 file to modify it (from my hard drive). The documentation has no comments on the concept of CCITT law A format? If you have any idea, without overthinking it...

Conversion OK; Issue: retrieval with Windows recorder no accessible command, (after access via accessories) only one box "Save"??
Thank you for your contribution, but I'm stuck.

You open the tape recorder, then click on "File" and then "Open," you look for your wav file, then click again on "File" and "Properties," then on "Convert now," you choose the CCITT A-Law format and then click on ok, then click on "File" and "Save As," you choose a name and click on "Save."

Thank you for your short, clear, and concise explanations; compliments.
I still need to resolve the tape recorder's opening. When I click on the tape recorder, only a mini window appears with "start recording" without a tab (file ...); the only available commands are start or stop.
For your information, I am on Vista 64 bits ... no information on the tape recorder in the FAQs
Thank you for taking the time; I will continue ...

Thank you Louis for your info; interesting software. No info on the Wav CCITT Law A format, but it allowed me to convert MP3 files to low-quality Wav (5.5 MB instead of 22 MB with other converters), which may suit the tech person who has to integrate this waiting file for the phone system.

For your information after resolution: The solution proposed by Barnabé 0057 is simple and effective under XP.
