Word Printing Margin Issue Solved

Question

Hello,
For some time now, when I start a print job in Word, I get the following message: "The margins for section 1 are set outside the printable area of the page. Do you want to continue printing?"
Indeed, by choosing to continue, the printing proceeds normally, but how can I avoid getting this error message when my layout is set to default?

Hello.  The writing margins (on screen) are those of Word; the printing margins (on paper) are those set by your printer. So it may happen that the two do not match; to be sure of what you are printing, use File > Print Preview.  That said, if the text area extends beyond the printer's capabilities, you may still find that everything you hoped for appears on paper if the part detected as "out of bounds" contains only white (which is quite common).  A little tip to fix this: in File > Page Setup, set all margins to zero and, after clicking OK, allow Word to automatically correct them; logically, your message issue should be resolved. If everything appears in "print preview," can I be sure that everything will be printed correctly?

Check in the layout during printing that your paper format is A4 with no margins.

To solve this problem, correct the margins of the section displayed in the error message. To do this, follow these steps: 1. In Microsoft Office Word 2003 and earlier versions of Word, click on Go To in the Edit menu.

In Microsoft Office Word 2007, click on Replace in the Editing group of the Home tab, then click on the tab.
2. In the Go To box, click on Section.
3. In the Enter section number box, type the number of the section displayed in the error message, then click on Go To, then click on Close.
4. In Word 2003 and earlier versions of Word, click on Page Setup in the File menu.

In Word 2007, click on the Page Setup dialog launcher in the Page Setup group under the Page Layout tab.
5. Click on the Margins tab, then click OK.

Note A Microsoft Word dialog box appears with the following warning message:
One or more margins are set outside the printable area of the page. Click the fix button to increase the desired margins.

6. Click on fix. This allows you to increase the margins of the non-printable area to the minimum allowed value of the setting.

Note If you are familiar with the minimum margins required by the printer, you can manually increase the top, bottom, left, and right margins to the correct specifications.
7. Repeat steps 1 to 6 if more than one section has margins set outside the printable area.

On Word for Mac, the problem can occur even when printing to a PDF file, which is not very consistent since there is no hardware limitation on margin size...

To solve the problem, go to file -> Page setup
Click on "Paper size" then "Manage custom sizes"
Create a custom paper size (A4 is suggested by default) and set the printer margins between 0 and 10 mm according to your needs.
