Hello,
Following a crash of Windows XP while I was copying files to my USB drive, it started to malfunction.
Wanting to recover my files and since I couldn't access the drive, I used various utilities (Drive Rescue and others) and my USB was recognized, and I managed to recover some files. Then things got complicated.
I wanted to format it because the rest of the files were corrupted, but I couldn't do that in Windows (I have Seven). I then tried some commands in the command prompt, but nothing worked. After various attempts on different machines (XP, Vista), the drive started to really act up.
Right now, the drive appears in my computer, but when I plug it in, it asks me to format it, which is impossible; the following message appears: "Check that the disk and the drive are connected and that the disk is not write-protected, then try again, etc...". Then if I go to properties, there is no file system assigned, and a total space of 0 bytes.
The drive is no longer recognized by any data recovery or formatting software (only my hard drives appear).
On one PC, when I remove the drive, it sometimes tells me that the file copying couldn't finish or something like that.
That's my problem that I've been working on for 2 days; I hope it isn't dead. It's a 16GB Kingston Data Traveler G2, which is not very old. I also know that it had a virus not long ago but was cleaned with Avast.
I think I've said everything, thank you in advance!

I have the same problem but with a 256GB Kingston DT310 USB drive.
It is recognized by the computer.
The drive is displayed.
It asks me to format it.
Formatting quickly is impossible; however, in normal mode, the formatting window opens. But nothing happens. I left it overnight, but nothing.
The green bar doesn't even start.
I've tried NTFS, FAT32, exFAT, but it's impossible.
Tonight I will try it on a Mac. I'll let you know.
