Hello,
I would like to know how to make my Samsung 1640 ML laser printer work. I changed the toner but it’s not working; I think it needs a patch or a reset. Please help me, it’s very urgent.
Configuration: Windows 7 Firefox 3.6

I believe the trick lies in the small CD provided with the toner, that's what I've noticed.

The manufacturers have envisioned a counter system that prevents a higher number of copies than the one for which the cartridge is intended. This means that if you only print small text files, the counter will block the machine while there is still three-quarters of the toner left inside! Official solution: replace the cartridge, which costs almost as much as a new machine... Did you say pollution?
There are two other solutions: one software-based and the other hardware-based. The software solution needs to be redone every time the machine reaches the fateful number (but it only takes a few seconds), whereas the hardware solution is permanent but involves tinkering with the printer's board, adding components, bypassing wires, etc. It's reserved for meticulous DIY enthusiasts...
As for me, I used the software solution. Here’s the name of the file:

      Samsung-ML-1640-reset-simple.zip

You can easily find it by copying and pasting this name into any random Google search!

Then the procedure needs to be explained, but otherwise, it is very simple. Once you’ve downloaded this file, unzip it and you will have three small files; drag the file that ends with .fls into the one that ends with .exe. That’s it. Then let the software work; the green light will turn orange for a few seconds, then it will turn back to green. After that, turn the machine off and back on. Be careful, for the printer, the cartridge is still empty, so the red light will remain on, but I found a trick; I stuck a piece of chewing gum on it, and it turned off like magic!

This was to reset the counter to finish the toner. Then there’s the refilling. Here, I’m a bit in the dark. I’ve understood that it needs to be done in near-darkness, as the drum can be damaged by light, wearing gloves and a mask since the powder is very volatile and possibly toxic. Moreover, I don’t know where to find bulk toner powder. I’ve understood that each machine must use a specific powder; I don’t know if there is a universal toner. It seems strange to me because I don’t see why one black powder wouldn’t resemble another black powder! It’s a bit like saying that a C3 only works with gasoline from the Total station in Trifouilly les Olivettes, while a Laguna works with gasoline from the Elf station in Perlinuchet-en-Couly!

If anyone has the answer, I’m all ears...
