Disappearance of Word document saved on USB drive

Hello,

I created a Word 2007 document on my computer, then saved it to my USB drive.
I modified it on a friend's computer (who has Word 2003), then I saved the changes on my USB drive.
When I reconnected the USB drive to my computer, I was able to work on it again.

But when I wanted to save it, Windows displayed four error messages in a row.
My file was transformed into a WRL 00... file and there was a message at the top of the Word page saying something like "incompatible mode." The last message informed me that the file had a problem and would need to be deleted.
And indeed, the Word page closed and my folder disappeared from the USB drive.

Since then, I have been unable to find it!

Do you know how and where I should look for it?
If I reconnect my USB drive to my friend's computer, will Word be able to reopen the file?

Thank you in advance!
Configuration: Windows Vista Firefox 3.0.14

    Hello
his version of Word is 2003, what about yours? If Word 2007 is not compatible at all with Word 2003
go check on his PC if your key works again.

Thank you for replying so quickly!

      Yes, I have Word 2007.

So the only solution would be to try to find it on my boyfriend's computer?

But I hadn't saved it there; I worked directly from the USB stick...

I'm reopening this topic, as I have exactly the same symptom on my PC with Windows XP and Word 2003, when saving my files onto a USB stick. I tried changing the USB stick (same issue), the USB port (same). The problem doesn't occur when I save to the hard drive. The strangest thing is that this only started happening recently and only with Word, never with Excel for instance. But with all sorts of Word files, regardless of size. Word states that the file is corrupt, it cannot save it. At best, I end up with a .tmp file that I can re-save, but the original file systematically disappears. Has anyone found the cause of the problem?
P.S. no responses like "Word is garbage", it's just a tool like any other, it serves me well.
Additional note: the USB stick is a PNY 32 GB.

You should never work directly on a USB flash drive, too many risks.
